Hi:I'm new to this forum and just wondering if someone could help me out with a model. I bought a model from turbo squid,It's obj format but i can't open it in milkshape and it crashes 3d crafter.
All my other obj models will open with milkshape, and this model is just making me want to pull my hair out. I was hoping some one would be willing to texture it and get it to work in milkshape or 3d crafter. I paid 50.00 for this model and it will end up being my main character in the game i want to make, sooooo it's very important that I can work with it. If any body can help please let me know. I can upload the model for anyone wanting to help. Thanks in advance for any help .

Try MeshLab
Import it and export to 3ds then re-import in MS3D.
Not sure it will keep animations tho

Thanks tried it out didn't work but i did find out my problem the model has 111854 vertices . Mesh lab won't let me export anything over 65535 vertices into a 3ds format. I might just have to think about using something else as my main character lol. Once again thanks for the help .

Milkshape can have trouble with large polygon count models. An other option would be if you have a direct X version (.x) of the model you can import it into milkshape using the Tools>>DirectX mesh tools in Milkshape. You can then reduce the number of polygons in the DirectX mesh tools using the slider before saving it directly into Milkshape.

You can then Load your Milkshape object directly in DBPro using our free DLL.
You can download it from our website by clicking on the banner.

DBP and some modelling programs have problems with vert counts over 65535. Objects are fine if they are separated into sub objects, ie. A DBP object has multiple limbs (each less than 65535 verts) is fine. If the modelling program export as a single mesh then you may have problems, switch off the single mesh option (if it has one). Apart from that, optimising your mesh is the other way to go.
