all of the specs of that computer can run fpsc, and if you need, a texture editor, sound editor, 3d modeler, don't worry. For example, this specs are probably 6 times more powerfull than my specs:
core 2 dual 7500
4gb ram ddr2 800 mhz
9600 gt
win 7 ultimate 64 bit
and with my specs, i can rum deus ex hr with golden filter disabled and a big level of fpsc at the same time, i can get 40 fps at fpsc and 30 at dxhr, and the hardware you want is many times more powerfull than mine, so i'm completely sure that this computer can rum fpsc at an extraordinary performance.

I own an Alienware laptop and I can tell you it can run FPSC.

It was quite obvious though, wasn't it?

My Alienware is the 5th setup we've bought from them. I've had zero issues with them or the service.

I have all Dell computers. Class.com a division of Cambium who my wife works for has all Dell computers. No issues or problems with service. Although I thought I did with one of my computers (my wife's) however, it turned out that it was my fault -- I purchased the wrong service contract.

To answer the question asked. Number 1, if you are getting it just for FPSC then you are getting way too much computer and paying too much. However, if you are getting it because you want one of the top of the line gaming machines where you can play games to the max, then that would be a good machine. It just so happens that FPSC will work well on it.

Echoing what Terry just said; I bought mine (2K +) so that I could do 3D work, as well as anything else I needed to do...or that may pop up in the future. I got 12GB of Triple Channel Ram, primarily for rendering.

My GOD Alienware is a waste of money. You are paying for the name and the case, not the specs. If you want a good quality computer that can run FPSC well and other high end games, build it yourself. Im pretty sure you can find an Alienware case somewhere on the internet. And it gives you sense of accomplishment when you complete building a computer.

That is my suggestions, but go with what ever you want..

If one can build their own, then that is a good thing. More power to them. I learned sometime ago that I am not a "hardware" man but totally a "software" man (watch it xplosys). I had trouble just upgrading RAM. I have lost more screws inside my computers than you can shake a screwdriver at. I'd rather debug a 100,000 line of code than try to take the cover off of a computer.

Have fun with that Josh. I choose to not have any issues (compatibility or otherwise), and if they occur...someone else can handle it. Hasn't been a waste of money for me.

I use this one from best buy. I added more ram just because. I ran fpcs in one of my biggest outdoor levels with over 500,000 ploy's in the scene, built the game and ran it with full post processing effect, recorded it with fraps and simultaneously burnt it to a dvd (just as a performance test). I never dropped below 57 fps with v-sync on and never went above 17% resource usage. I can also have around 9-10 of the task force 341 character duking it out and not drop a single frame.

I have my computer built from scratch, cost about $400 which it would've cost $800+ normally.

Same... plus the satisfaction of getting my hands dirty and knowing I built it!

Only downside is you cant yell at someone through the phone if the computer decides to... well you know what I mean

Cheers,
Anayar

EDIT: And man, for $1500 it sure BETTER be able to run FPSC... hell, it better be able to crunch a billion poly scene in 3DS Max without a problem or else I wouldnt get it

Lol the piece of junk i'm on can run 8000 polys before it begins to go from 60 to 59.

How many polys do you think it could handle?

@Keith - I have yet to have one problem on my machine.

@Le Shorte, Kerrby,Anayar - I agree with all of you. Building your own machine is significantly cheaper, and you won't have to deal with all of the crap they pre-download onto the computers when you buy them. It also feels AWESOME when you build you own. I wish i could build another one right now, but i sadly do not have the money... For Christmas i am hoping to get some new parts (motherboard, CPU, and RAM) but im still deciding..

Anyways, it is your choice. All i am saying is not to get the Alienware. And why are you getting a laptop? Towers can handle so much more..

And you have to also realize that, when buying a laptop and getting descent specs on it, there will ALWAYS be something better. And as the years go on, computers will get better/faster/more efficient/etc.. So if you ever want to upgrade your computer in the future, i recommend getting a desktop. I know you can replace parts in a laptop, it's just a pain in the ass to do that. Also, i think the Alienware was will be even harder because of the case they have.

Just some helpful hints.. And i agree with Gendestroier, don't put money into something you might not use a lot.
