Extract files from either a .rar or a .zip

Thought I'd post it here in case not many of you visit other forums.

As simple as this:

Any suggestion, etc, just let me know...

Easy to use. Just zip your media into one file and use either of the 2 extra commands to extract the files from it. Lightning fast...

Thanks guys...

The .rar version only works with rar files done with version 2.90 or below. Any higher than that it won't work, although you still can password protect the archive. Also I won't be supporting the rar version as it holds a license on creating rar archives. Winrar is free for personal use for 40 days.

Zip archiving programs are 10 a penny and the decompression code is free for personal and commercial use although I may have to add something to the EULA about its use as well as anybody who uses it. I'll double check that later on.

I'm glad people are finding them useful...

@WLGfx,

Can I create an archive with these commands and then add further files to the archive using the password later on?

Nah, you just use Winzip (or whichever archiver you use) to do that for you, as well as to set the password. Much easier to do it that way. Most of the time its just a right click on the desktop after selecting files and create the first archive from there.

I've tried and tested the commands with winzip legacy 2.0 compression and encryption and it works great.

It is upto the programmer to slyly encrypt the password in their code. Something like this will hide it from prying eyes:

The in-between commands are usually sufficient enough to hide the password creation.

If required, I can add commands that will create a zip archive, but I really did not see that as being at all necessary.

but can you zip one file to a zip file and then zip another file to that same zip file?

You can extract a zip from a zip yes and then use that zip file. Basically using multiple passwords if you want if that's what you're after. Yep!

All the "out of programming stuff" is done via your very own desktop. Create your zip file, add passwords, even as @duffer said, add more encrypted files inside "an already" encrypted file. Hide, hide, and more hiding, etc... Passwords... Blah, blah... Good innit?

My advice is to create your functions to handle the files your extracting because I will not do that for you.

I will however update you whether or not I will add this:

1. A function that will extract a complete ZIP file and store it details.
2. Another function that will delete all files from that extraction.

At the mo I'm stinking about it...
