I have had some ambitious ideas for bosses, but I began to realise something simpler would be more feasible. With the recently implemented per-polygon hit detection feature, this opens the possibility of bosses having multiple weak points on their bodies.

The ideas I had for bosses had you solving puzzles in order to expose their weak points, eg: planting a mine on the ground and waiting for the boss to crawl over it and detonate it so it destroys its exoskeleton. Their attacks often included other things rather than just shooting at you or melee attacks, such as sending the platform you're standing on into deadly lasers.

I was wondering if it was even possible to bring these ideas to life without modifying the source code. In that case, do you think it is much more feasible to make the bosses basically like ordinary enemies, but with more advanced AI, scripted gimmicks and events triggered when the boss's HP reaches a certain level (eg: summoning minions to attack you or switching to a more powerful weapon when the boss's HP is halved), fancy unique weapons only the bosses can use (like bond1's Ice Wizard that shoots an ice beam that freezes you) and clever use of the per-polygon hit detection feature?

Yeah many of these things that would have been unheard of a few years ago are all possible now. But they take lots of meticulous planning and patience on both the art creation side of things and on scripting- I'd love to make an entire pack of boss characters sometime.

bond1: As someone who is very experienced in both art creation and scripting, do you think it would be a good idea to rethink my more ambitious ideas and simplify them, or do you think that it's possible in the latest incarnation of FPSC? One idea I had was a boss actually forming a wall of lava and sending it sweeping across the arena, and you had to find a gap in it to dodge the attack, and you had to defeat the boss by making one of his attacks explode in his face. As far as I know, nothing like that has been done in FPSC before, but I could be wrong.

I'm sure many of us would.

As Nickydude said.

I would be willing to pay top dollar that FPSC users could absorb.
