Hello, would anybody be able to tell me how much an average weapon should have in terms of triangles and polys, and if the image attached has too much?

Yes, that is WAY too much, Wheatleyy. It must be around 100 to 600 or something.

I think I read in a simular thread somewhere 1000 to 3000 for weapons and 1000 to 5000 for characters.

I think prop polies depend upon how many of the same prop you put in a level, I have saw some up to 3000. although lower is always better.

Hey bootlicker, Whats up, send me an e-mail. I want to talk to you about that gun we talked about before.

What you've got at the moment, would be fine, if only the model were complete, and had a LOT of detail.
I'd say, FPSC guns should be atleast 600-2000 max, with any other engines capable of having guns up to 9k or even 12k polys.

I go by this:
FPSC pistol:
400-1500 quads/800-3000 tris 512 or 1024 texture
FPSC larger weapon:
1000-2500 quads
up to 5000 tris 1024 texture

Any other fps engine:
at least 6000 tris

Also it is important to note that when correctly making a current gen weapon, there should be a high poly and low poly weapon. I will not get into the whole process, but most people here don't know that. With a correctly baked normal map (NOT ONE GENERATED FROM THE TEXTURE) you can make a 2000 poly model look like it is a lot, lot more.

Another note: most people agree texture has the largest impact on fps, not poly count. Going slightly over usually will not impact it more than half an fps to 1 fps.
