I really want to add lightmaps in my level, but I can't find a way to make a .3ds file have a lightmap. AND the dll Dark Collisions has blazingly fast .3ds collision. I don't want to switch to BSP collision in DBP if it's slower than Dark Collisions, but I also want to have lightmaps for my level.

So I'm asking: When will DBP have fully functiong BSP collision OR can .3ds files handle lightmaps? And how would I apply them in pro?

i dont think .3ds can have lightmaps... but what about .x files? because the Dark Collision also does .x files

Write your own lightmap's engine, it isn't so difficult, the matter is about extraction of each vertices, and convert each polygon to a a limb, because you can't directly set a texture polygon per polygon with DbPro.

Ok, is that actually possible, and have you done it before? Has anyone done this before? Is there a code snippet on it somewhere? This'd be great if it's something we can actually do.....

Answer... god knows
don't worry a slightly better BSP thingiemabob is on the way
not sure how good it is, but it does look to have a tad more features

i might be looking into making one soon, cause of something ... but thats just a might

though the current BSP collision is alright, just not fantastic for staircases if what i hear is true

Don't forget that currently lightmap objects can be loaded as a second display object and then "Dark Ghosted".

It means you need twice the geometry rather than just another set of UV coords but it will get your 3ds/x file looking moody & nice

but wouldn't that overlap all of the geometry and cause a lot of texture problems? like one texture diagonally striping into another?

I need a good way to add lights to a 3ds/x file!!

Yes its a very good question and it can do if not done properly.

The last time I tried a working version of CShop (for me that was V2) all the geometry worked out just fine.

Another product I liked was this one, it can apply lightmaps to any old x or 3ds model, no need for BSP like editors. Again it creates a seperate file but when dark ghosted looks real nice.

omg nice, but there's no diagonal texture thingy problems with overlapped faces?
