Hello. I made a model in milkshape and I wish to color the limbs in DBP. but what I found is even though the limb cords were correct. I could not texture each on on it's own. I have to color it as a whole (limb number 2) any ideas? also how can I make parent limbs for a tank control? (barrel moving up and down wail the turret rotates,)

thanks much

I have used Milkshape time ago, and it was good for animating single mesh. If your object has more than one limb, you should be able to texture or give different colours to each limb. Could you rar your file to test ?.

This tank code, was one I made for a 20 lines code time ago.Take a look.

Cheers.

Hey, I fixed my color thing. I think what it is is that I animated the model in characterFX, and that made it one big mesh. I loaded the same model but freshly exported from milkshape and it works just fine. I'll just save the animation in a different file and use a model that has only been worked in milkshape in the code.

When I said tank code I meant so that the barrel would rotate with the turret wail still being able to pitch up and down. as of now the turret will rotate on the Y but the barrel still faces the front. or, it's not a child of the turret limb. How do I set up parent limbs/child limbs in milkshape is what I'm asking.

Thanks much!

It was 10 years ago when I have used Milkshape...now I don't remember, but googling perhaps you can find some help.

Cheers.

Southside Games,

In milkshape you can not specify a limb hierarchy. You can create the hierarchy for your model in DBPro using the “LINK LIMB” command. We have attached a example. To run the example you will need our “SITDS_Tools.dll”

From what I gather, you want to be able to rotate "child" limbs. If this is correct....

First, I had problems using .x files exported from MS3D using the native converter. However, I was able to get things working using JTs DX converter.

Second, you don't specify child limbs in MS3D. However, you can get the same function of you select the "parent" joint before creating the "child" joint. Now when you rotate/translate the parent joint, all joints connected to it will rotate/move accordingly. It's important to remember to assign each mesh to the joint it belongs to also. I've exported many models and accidentally forgot to assign the meshes to joints...and so some things rotated but others just sat there. It sounds like this may be your problem.

*Edit*
Attached is a test tank model (MS3D). The turret and barrels should work the way you want them to.
