I've gotten this over a year ago and I still can't understand how to use it. It said it was easy, but I don't get it. can someone tell me where I can find detailed tutorials? that'll be very helpful.

I'd have to say........ The Game Creators can make dreams come true.

I know it seems hard. And what you don't want to hear. I've learned although I'm still learning by books! Johnathan Harbour, and Jerry Lee Ford put out some amazing books on DarkBASIC Pro. Once you read those, I mean your pretty much on your way. Follow those up with the books by Alistair Stewart Hands on v1 and v2 or even start with those, and you can't go wrong. DBPro is genius!

I bought DBPro back in...jeez like 2003/04 and didn't know where to get started so I put it on a shelf and started using Game Maker. After learning that it was like a door opened and DBPro just made tons of sense. It's like visual programming...well for the most part. Anyway I'd suggest trying out Game Maker (www.yoyogames.com) if you're having problems with DBPro. It may help you get a basic grasp on how to develope with DarkBASIC.

I have to say I had to re-read the title of this post to see if I'd read it right... There is a search function on the forum, and an entire forum dedicated to newcomers. Everything you could possibly need in one place.

I don't think he should go to Game Maker at all. Although I do see where your coming from. Game Maker and it's drag and drop interface I don't think has anything to do with eventually coming back to DBPro.

If you want to make a game fast, and hurry it up for prototyping then sure, however I think DBPro and starting with DBPro is just fine. It's just a work in progress. You'll be fine! I wouldn't even worry about looking at the newcomers section of the forum. Just check out Daniel's youtube channel, and follow along. If you get time volume 1, and volume 2 of hands on DarkBasic are priceless and also available in .pdf format. So you don't have to worry about shipping. You can do it!

C++ does not have any load in features for objects, you have to write a include header just to load in .x files, and that header file is not small.

You also can not load any image with out open gl as they already wrote header files for loading images, but each .x file has there own anamations textures and shape.

Dark basic pro is so simple to all you have to do is say

load object
position object
move object

I love dark basic pro.

Daniel: You could compile the files into a lib then its just one file included (much like DBPro's includes) after that C++ just implements the functions that are required by the program itself

Yes I know, But my point is you need a diffrent header file per object you load, this was my only point my friend.

No, no you don't. You need one header, and you instance a class for the object.

Example:

I created a header that makes a class that handles the hard stuff, and you instance the class to make and modify objects.

You cant do this whith .x files,I know I have searched and searched and came up empty for any tutts on how to import .x files. I am forced to use dirrect x examples and this is stupid becouse I want to create my own program from my own code. And doing this takes alot of diffrent code for each model, unless Im wrong And I could be.

All I know is each .x modle is diffrent and can not use the same header files, but what do I know,I am still learning, lol.

I would just stop using .X models

I am using DirectX 10, in which they stopped supporting .X models. It is possible to still use them, but I just use Assimp, an open-source, cross platform 3D model format libary. I recommend you try it if you are coding pure DirectX: http://assimp.sourceforge.net/index.html

It supports many formats, making it very useful.
