Hi, when I run my current project, for the first few seconds it is fine (e.g. 60fps), then the FPS drops by 10/15, and then returns to 60 and stays about right. Just wondered if anyone else had this at all? The code doesn't have any event that starts a few seconds in that may cause this judder. Just wondered! I guess its possible ZoneAlarm checks the EXE and that causes a blip, can't think of any other 3rd party software that may do that (I turned off Norton but that didn't make any odds). I'll keep debugging.

Thanks.

Could well be other software interfering. Does this happen even with simple programs that just loop around and do nothing else?

I actually just noticed this exact thing happening here to. It's very strange because I have more "involved" programs that don't do this, but I just wrote a remake of pong and I noticed it happening

wierd

I have noticed this too. I also get a little hard drive thrashing during this slow down, so I assumed the drive was cleaning up after itself, temp files etc, and that was causing the slow down. I have an old slow computer so it doesn't take much for it to fall on it's face. But after 3-8 seconds, FPS come right back to where they started.

I noticed this too...for me it only seems to happen when I use exclusive mode.

Interestingly enough, I get the exact same behaviour from a non-DB Pro app that I wrote in C++ which also uses exclusive mode...so maybe it's a DirectX thing?

Hi Mike, I'll test with a very simple program, but it seems I'm not alone. Which is a good and a bad thing I'll also test by adding a delay at the very start of the code, that'll help figure if its something post or pre model loading etc. see if that makes any odds.

Thanks.

Hi, I tried a tiny program (just a spinning cube) and the frame rate (using screen fps() as a guage and locked at 60) went from 0 to 55 and then settled at 66 in the first 3 seconds. I ran the same test in my larger project and the beginning was the same, then after a few seconds there are 2 spikes where it drops to 44 twice (a few seconds inbetween) then settles at 60. If I get the time I'll drop an fps graph function out so people can see their fps history when running their programs.

Cheers.

I would think its the swap file having stuff added to it - do you notice any HD activity ?
