Some people get offended by the phrase... not me... just people lol

for example I am also confused I got a slap for using a three lletter word starting with 'a' ... someone else used it... .... ... nothing happens...

I wish the rules were a little clearer... perhaps a sticky to highlight things?

To be honest any phrase can offend someone. I just say 'black' because it's no different to calling somebody white and I've never ever offended anybody by saying it. It's descriptive and there's no other connotations made. I know some folk have a thing about making a big deal on using the right politically correct terms but at times I find that to be what's offensive, because it's signalling people out to be more different.

If somebody's being insulting on the other hand, then there's plenty of reason to be offended.

What else would you call a black person? An African American? I imagine most black people in Britain are either not African or not American...

It's ridiculous if you can't say "black person". You can't assume they're African.

We're not going to make a list of all the words you can and can't say. Just use your common sense, and worry about yourself. Don't point it out if someone says a word that you think's against the rules. We have eyes!

I still feel awkward regarding a certain word I got slapped for and everyone... well some people get away with saying it... and it was a scientifically correct word too...

Eitherway... her outburst was a little OTT regardless of drink or circumstance I feel...

Where did you get slapped for saying that? The only time you've been slapped is when you came back a few months ago and started bumping really old threads.

Would you get over it already good lord. You said a word that is common sense not to use. It's a curse word, we aren't allowed to use curse words here. Now get over it.

It's either, 'cuss' is just an American colloquialism, but it means exactly the same thing.

We are not machines.
We do not read every single post someone makes just in case it has a swear word.
The forum deals with a preset list of swear words automatically.

Basically though, swears might be let slide depending on context and luck. For example, if you said ''I'm not trying to be an ass'', we would most likely ignore that, if you said ''Stop being an ass'', we might take notice. I have no idea what the context of your 'ass' was, but the basic rule is that people shouldn't be swearing - no matter what other people are posting, no matter what you think is or isn't acceptable. If a swear was left alone, then the chances are it was not directed at anyone. We only really get annoyed when people try to circumvent the swear filter, there isn't really a huge problem with swears on this forum.
