Hi.

Does anyone know how to use this stupid DDS Converter 2.1 by Yannick 'Bluehair' Leon. I have tried and tried to get it to work, but because of the stupid way he has done it has nade it very difficult to use.

Or, if anyone knows of a better program?

Many Thanks

Never heard of that program, but there a .dds plugin available for GIMP, and Paint.net can save .dds without needing a plugin (both are free). So if you were to install either program, you would just need to open the image file you want to convert and then save as whatever extension you want.

DDS converter is a very good tool, and again it is not made stupidly.

It runs ok on my Vista 32 bit and on my Win 7 Home premium 32 bit, so not sure about 64 bits
I have attached a test image showing it working in Vista

Just to let you know that you cannot convert the files inside the same directory as where the original file are,it does not like it!

But once configured correctly you can convert 100's of images in a few seconds,

So configure it correctly!
Or enjoy the long manual process

Jupp, DDS Converter is a pretty good ( and pretty simple ! ) program, but it doesn't work with Vista and Win7, I've tried it some time ago, without success.

if it don't work with vista and win7 , then i must be lucky, as i use it on both, but then i know what im doing!

I would say Turn of user acounts and then install by right clicking on the install and install under admintrator, and you should beable to use it just like me.

i have it installed on 5 pc's and on 2 laptops, all of which are Vista 32 bit and win 7 32 bit, and all works just fine.

Some people may not installing correcly to make it work, but try my sugestions and and see how you get on, oh also i have service pack 2 on all my vista's

so if you only have service pack 1, then i sugest updating
as i have not tried on service pack 1 systems

Thanks For comfirming Blackfox, as a nice bit of software it realy is underestimted on what system people can use it on,

and realy people should not give up on it so easily, as it can save hours of hard work

Also if people download and install Paint.net then make sure you don't assoisate the file for dds upon install, as it causes a problem in fpsc
meaning the file header of the file created via pain.net does not alway allow the image to be used correctly in fpsc. as it is due to the windows file handling. as for gimp i have not had any problems at all

As a admin Pc engineer, i find that there are 1000's of bits of software that do not work in a standard operating system, but with a bit of know how 99% of them can work. by disabling UAC accounts on 32 bit systems, but 64 bit Os is a hole new ball game.

this is from my experiance

I'm having that particular issue as well on my W7. I'll try uninstalling and installing as administrator.

You may have to manually put in the file you want to convert.

1. Open DDS Converter
2. In the left pane, you can navigate to the folder your images are located.
3. In the field "Image File list", type the path and file name. Make sure you select the "Input format" (if it is PNG, select PNG, etc).
4. Select your "Output Format".
5. Select your "Output Folder".
6. To the left of the "Reset" button is a ".\" button. Click that and the Convert button is enabled. It also sets the output folder to match the input folder.
7. Click "Convert" and voila.

If you were hoping to do what is called a "batch conversion", it will not do that. We tried with using "c:\test\2\*.*", "c:\test\2\*.png", etc and still we had to manually input the path and file name in the Image file list. I assumed the author made it that way and just do each one manually.
