Well volume 1 and 2 are designed to be one big course together.
The chapters in volume 2 continue where volume 1 left, in terms of numbering.
But volume 2 focusses more on 3D aspects of DBP.
I would say it's not NECCESSARY, but I would go for both volumes as only then you have a complete course.
