i don't actually like the site design, i mean its very pretty and clever but when you have to have a few attempts to click an option on the menu it gets abit silly.

yeah don't worry the site design is changing drastically should have it up in a few days, much more pro finish to it hopefully.
You can achieve some very good results from Paintshop though.

see previous post ^^
got the framework going atm
registration/login system is fully operational and have it tied into a proxy mySql database, hopefully I can tie it into the forums db just as easily should make the site alot more manageable for the expansions later.

also been using that tool of the devil, iFrames
but before anyone bitches about it ... just wait until the site is up. Also been getting to grips with the whole content refference stuff, its been alot more interesting and fun than i imagined.

I'm totally wiped but gonna work for a few more hours, luckily don't have work tommorrow cause my boss went on a little excusion to some conference or other and without him there they have nothing for me to do
so hopefully if he doesn't come back Thursday i'll have til Monday off hehee (^_^)

should be able to get alot done

So Mr. Iframes, how are you hopeing to get hits from google?

Iframes cack up the indexing system so less hits are made, best bet is to use Java Script and make virtual frams that hist/display content that way google wil have no trouble.

There may be some down time on the puffinteractive.com site as i am moving it to new servers.

I am the technical Co-Ordinator of the move, anything posted from now on will dissapear after 24 to 48 hours. After this time normal service will resume.

Thank You,

well i hate gooogle so the likely hood of me setting up the site to be on there are slim to none.
Puffy might, but I prefer other search engines suchas Microsofts and AltaVista... and I don't really care about search engine hits either, the site hits are recorded on the Server Console Index don't need to display such results to the world.

You'll understand when you see it online. I'm still getting strange things from my local host mySql - so a little tweaking, as you say 48hrs is gonna be when the server is up again (hopefully with NO data loss this time) then that should give me more than enough time to finish

Recently saw something on techtv.

Google had over 90% popularity compared to all the other major search engines.(I think yahoo had like 4%, and lycos didn't even hit %1.)

Just something to think about, but I'm sure, I'll be better able to understand what you're talking about later.(like you mentioned)

I like Google because it's fast, easy, and gives very relevant results.

And no, I was not paid to say that. Lol.

Well, for me. While I'm sucker for flashy site effects, and the effects do look good. But from a practically view point, i'm sorry the menu is awful, make it optional.

yes i do, i'm not going to pamper to what the server has pre-signed upto. i don't have an obligation to accomodate such actions, and i don't plan to either.

Would have thought you wanted hits.

But i will stop now. There are worse things that can happen than the site mucking up when viewed after a google search

meh, i don't care about hits... just that the site actually works, whats the point in a site that has 10,000 hits if the front page doesn't load and look like it should?

oki the site is back up now... however the new site isn't online yet.
I'm still not happy with the compatibility between the user system and Mozilla at the moment.

It'll be up within the day hopefully but i'm not sure about the forums integration right now.

What I find disturbing is the news about Microsoft wanting to buyout Google. Can you imagine this? Hell on Earth is what I imagine.

This was on another site which I found funny.

Quote: "
Top 10 Implications of Microsoft Buying Google

10. Free worm with every search.

9. Google renamed "Microoosoooft."

8. Google becomes default search engine on all computers; attempts to use Yahoo! causes PCs to emit a pungent odor.

7. The search choices on Google will change from "Web," "Images," "Groups," "Directory," and "News" to "Web," "Shop Microsoft," "Buy From Microsoft Because You Have No Choice," and "Steve Ballmer Dancing."

6. Google Image Search will not show Microsoft's dark side.

5. All searches on the term "Steve Jobs" will return bios on Art Garfunkel, Ike Turner, Burt Ward (a.k.a. Robin), and other second fiddles.

4. Long speeches from Bill Gates about how "Smart Appliances" will allow owners to use Google to search for what's in their fridge. When pressed, Gates admits such appliances are only available in his mansion, and that he's never actually seen his refrigerator.

3. Microsoft uses Google technology to search for weapons of monopolistic destruction.

2. All searches on the term "Larry Ellison" will produce lists of garbage-collection websites.

1. "Bill Gates is richer than Warren Buffett" subliminally inserted into all search results.

"

lol, some jokes that seem to actually have some homework done on them
still keeps to the stereotype of msn but still funny.

doubt msn will ever be google powered, they'll just buy a license to the technology. Use it for themselves until the Google people turn around and try to sue them. At which point they'll cut all access to the said technology apart from required supportas not to break the digital software freedom act and create thier own, remarkably similar version with a few more features which ends up being shipped as part of Windows Nx hehee

i'm not against Microsoft or anything, hell i'm one of thier biggest supporters. i know what microsoft do, and they do it well.

.Net/C# is the result of Microsoft & Java
Internet Explorer is the result of Microsoft & Mozilla
Office is the result of Mircosoft and Lotus Notes, Word Perfect, dBase
Visual C++ is the result of Microsoft & C++
Windows 3.0 was the result of Microsoft & MacOS

anything good that microsoft has, they've stolen
but to thier credit they do one hell of alot more with something than the original developers ever do.

Just look at the feature gap between Microsoft Network Explorer and Mozilla, although IE appears to be behind the times but the the fact that Netscape bitched to the courts that with IE being bundled with Windows it was unfair, blah blah blah
Bloody courts ment that after 5.5 it was split into IE 6.0 and MSNE 6.0 ... now we have MSNE 8.0 (still buggered if i know what happened to 7.0) but thats the one that should be compared.
IE 7.0 isn't allowed to be released with Windows Nx either, which is bloody annoying ... so you'll have IE 6.0 Nx released with it (again bloody courts and whinging Netscape!)

i've lost the point here (^_^) so i'll stop lol

I think if your an internet company then search engines like google are brill. You can give them lots of money become number one and make sales. But for me (although i have registered with google) google isn't that great. To be honest not many of my friends want to read about darkbasic and anyone who does i already can get into contact with from these forums. That and whenever I look up something for school I always get "EBAY" as the number one at the top.
