NOTE!!!NOT $$Monetarily$$ Based

I'm not sure if it's ever been tried here... but I routinely find myself thinking about how beneficial, for both the community as a whole and for indivual members, something similar to bountysource.com

But,, rather than dealing with the issues that could result from a "actual-currency based" bounty...

I think a non-currency-based "reward/recognition system" would work better for the community.

[A possible idea:]
Members could earn Community "Badges"(Designed by the community) for completing a bounty; beit source code, a TPplug-in, an app, a tool/utility etc...

It would be "ideal" to have earned "badges" integrated into members avatar-info-area, but if that's not feasable at this time, perhaps the community could still manage the "badges" via an Honor-Based-System. Meaning: Members could display their "Badges" in their signature's. It would just be a fun way to recognize our members effort's while also helping to focus developers effort's on the current needs of the community.

One thing that would help keep requests organized and out of the flow of the other boards is:
A Board Specific to "Community Bounties".

---------------------------------

Do you think something similar [could] or [could not] work here?
Do you think something like this would have a positive of negative impact on the TGC community?
Do you have a similar/better idea?

[Note!] - There have been a great number of free offerings from this community since it's inception... So IMHO if anything like this were to be considered by the community... It would be a priority to acknowledge as many of those efforts and the members that contributed them as possible.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

So for example someone creates a .xxx to .xxx model converter so someone gets convert badge and someone creates a model animator tool or rigging tool and they get a badge to show they made a model rigging app¿

I didnt check that website out as I dislike their sort.

Did I vet the point though¿

@MrValentine, Yes pretty much. However, in my thoughts bounties would have to be requested,, but perhaps that model only works if the requester is actually paying for a specific task, app, etc...

So perhaps it should be more Open.

The idea was that some sort of consensus (not sure of the details) on things the community feel are needed, missing, desired. A bounty and list of requirements would be posted from the consensus. I didn't want it to be so rigid that only one person could accept the bounty, and get into seriously tracking the progress. But, I think it would make sense to work together on a bounty if significant progress has been made,, and avoid duplicating work whenever possible.

This is really just in the thought stage,, but so many times I have had time but I don't really have an idea of what to work on. It would be rewarding if I could check a board for needs of the community. Then balancing the requirements with my available time and skill level. Plus, a badges or points system would add a but to the motivation factor in completing and delivering a product.
