Ok I don't want to turn this into a flame-war, because this thread isn't about Hitchens' views, it's about his legacy. He was a great public intellectual, writer, orator, he was sharp as ever during live debates despite how drunk he was, and he gave me a lot of personal confidence, even though I didn't agree with all his views. I'd just like to tip my hat to him in his passing and show my respects in this thread.

Just heard about this, terrible. One of the quickest, sharpest men on the planet. I think my favorite quote is when he was asked how his book was different to other, similar books on the market by people like Harris or Dawkins, he replied "It's better".

He will be missed, I know he ruffled feathers but he was a great mind and I didn't agree with everything he said, but I don't think it makes his death any less sad. He will not be forgotten and I think he will still be appreciated and his intelligence will still contribute to expanding minds.
