Hello!

I've written my latest blockbuster(!) in DBP and am making the installer. I know DX9.0c is needed for DBP exes, and I'm trying to detect this as part of the installer and offer to update if the version is too low.

I have XP computers at work that tell me DX9.0c is installed (version 4.09.00.0903 in the registry), but - strangely - the DBP prog fails with "You need Directx 9.0c...". When I update the computers' DX installations, the DBP prog works.

What's that all about?

Anyone else come across this? Maybe there's something missing in the original DX installations that DBP needs?

Any advice would be most welcome!

James.

Directx has made some updates, and that's why is call DX90c, because time ago there was an old version DX90b and even being the Dx90c, we can find the directx 90c for july....november...etc etc, so if you have a new PC, probably you will have to instal the last directx 90c even knowing you that the one you have is that one. Anyway, when we try to update, directx make a check, and if there is something to add the program will updated. This is a nightmare !

Cheers.

ther are specifix DLL's that your program uses... try launching it on a fresh installation pc and it will output the required DLL's >.<

But yeah you can find the needed DX verion on the Dark game Studio DVD if you have it... I am not sure where you can download it through the TGC site...

but I guess you have it already lol...

I think what you need to do is perform a silent install of DX during the installer but this does mean adding the I think it was roughly 90MB file size to your program.

The DX installer found on DGS is a distribution edition... so you should be fine distributing it anyway... but best checking on that... though I believe all DX installers are fine... I mean to distribute... I think its DX 9.0c August 2008... can someone please confirm this? you could just find that Microsoft download page and link users to download it themselves.. but you can also find the information on that page regarding distribution with your own programs.

You can also just run the installer during install does not have to be silent... the libraries will just add the differences.

urgh hope this made sense and helped somewhat...

btw what are you using to make the installer?

Thanks for the replies. I'm using InstallAware Studio. My script looks for DX version 4.09.00.0903 in the registry. If the version is lower than that, it offers to install DX using DX web setup.

It seems that different releases of 9.0c have the same version number.

you need to look for the August release as far as I know...
Most games just launch the installer and the installer checks for missing components as chafari mentioned above

also keep in mind I believe DBP needs .net framework?
it's a good idea to drop msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll into your game folder. They do not need to be installed into the windows\system32 folder, just reside in the same folder as your .exe

Is that true about the .net framework?

A list of DBP exe requirements would be useful - anyone know where there is one?

you must have a computer that is Dll free. every time you run an app, the computer will tell which Dll is missing. then, you add the missing Dll to your app registry folder.

this method saved me a lot of time.

NO, dbpro doesn't need it

some of the third party plugins, like Matrix1Utils, require it

me?...

I find it to be buggy from all the posts I see on here... I think I need not mention... this post included...

But I am still getting familiar with the official plugins... so once I familiarise myself with those I will try Matrix tools and some of the other heavily mentioned plugins...

What bugs are you talking about? I've found that the Matrix1Utils are more consistently bug-free than any of the official plugins or the core libraries themselves! Usually when a bug arises from Matrix1Util functions, it's from the improper use of the function(such as in the arrayptr functions), not the Matrix1Utils themselves.
