@Mods Sticky possibility?

Hello everyone,
I just made a performance patch for FPSC and it works with all versions, including mods.
It does basically everything that Dark Evenger did to his FPSC-Game.exe here but it does
it for you, and it also does it for FPSC-MapEditor.exe so that should be faster too!

23/12/2011 DOWNLOAD UPDATED, BUG FIXED WHERE PATCH WOULD NOT APPLY
PLEASE REDOWNLOAD THE PATCH

Performance Patch:
Dark Evenger Testmap (low quality):
Dark Evenger Testmap (high quality):

17/01/2012 NEW UPDATE FOR THE PATCH, YOU MUST EXTRACT THE PATCH FILES AS USUAL,
THEN PLACE THIS OVER THE TOP OF THAT

Instructions:
1. Unzip into your FPS Creator folder (where FPSC-Game.exe, FPSC-MapEditor.exe and setup.ini are located)
2. Run Patch.exe
3. Wait for the patching process to complete and you're done.

Where is my FPSCreator folder?:

Provided that you installed FPSC without changing the install directory:

1. 32bit systems: C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator
2. 64bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\The Game Creators\FPS Creator

If you use the FPSCreator free version:

1. 32bit systems: C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator Free
2. 64bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\The Game Creators\FPS Creator Free

User results:

Captain Coder - 10-15 FPS, High Quality Map
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10 GHz
Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Special Thanks:
NTCore\Daniel Pistelli (for 4GB patch)
the_winch (for ProFix)
Mark Overmars (for Game Maker)
Lee Bamber (for FPSC)

What kind of framerate improvements can be expected? (or does it do something completely else)

Is it stable? (as in as stable as vanilla FPSC)

@Scurvy Lobster

You can't expect a massive framerate overhaul, but if you have more than 2GB RAM you should expect a smooth frame rate after this patch.
And yes, it is VERY stable.

2GB = Minor framerate improvement
3GB = Small-Good framerate improvement
4GB = Good framerate improvement
8GB = Massive framerate improvement

yeah, do what you want with it, I don't care

@maho76
You're welcome

Forget the rest of this post, all I added to that version was a line of code to make lightmaptexsize 1024
Note to all: There is a new version coming soon, that not just does everything this does, but it optimizes setup.ini as well.

@JaredxD
Those files are required by patch.bat, there is no need to touch them at all. Just make sure patch.bat and the apps folder are in the same folder together (the fpscreator folder, usually C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator or C:\Program Files (x86)\The Game Creators\FPS Creator).

I don't see a huge difference in FPS. However it feels a lot more smooth and responsive.

@uzi idiot

Yeah, as I said there isn't a HUGE difference, but it uses more memory than usual, so I guess that's why it felt more responsive and smooth. Just to get some results though, how much RAM do you have?

@Zombie Killer.

Sorry to put a downer on this. I haven't tested this, but did download it. I do have to ask if you have permission to redistribute 4gb patch? as I understand it is the property of NTcore, I know that it is a free download and you have credited them, but that may not allow you to distribute the file.

oh wow. i just placed a new light and the lightmapping happened again, it appears that lightmapping only happens when new lights are placed, instead of new entities. well for me anyways.

Nah, I made this before you even posted your thread, but when I saw your thread I decided to upload it

@Scene Commander
Just emailed now and am awaiting a reply thanks for the reminder

EDIT: @Scene Commander hehehe, TZK has devised a plan, I made it launch wget and make an automated dowload of 4gb_patch.zip from ntcore.com, then it uses 7za.exe (7-Zip) to extract it, then it patches like normal, I'll upload that version if ntcore's answer is no.

Looking forward to testing this one. I ran Dark Evenger's high-quality test map and I got 10-15 FPS on my machine when all 70 characters were in view. My specs:

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10 GHz
Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I think that isn't too bad!

Thanks for putting the finishing touches on this The Zombie Killer.

Hi, in patch.bat the file paths point to "perfpatch_apps" instead
of "apps".

@everyone
Rename your apps folder to perfpatch_apps folder for it to work correctly, @uzi idiot, this is probably why you didn't see much difference.

Hi guys!
Help to install the patch. To move the folder "apps"? I run patch.bat I pop up message: "Done. Press any key to exit..." . No changes I have not. Limiting 1.85 gb is not removed, the performance is not improved.
Help me please!

Make sure that the patch is in your FPSCreator folder
also make sure that the patch is run as administrator. I may
release a fix later that doesn't need admin rights.

Try this one, it shouldn't require admin rights.

Hi The Zombie Killer

I use the latest RPG_Mod and the patch worked well. As said before, the framerate drops, but the movement is much smoother.

Thank you very much for the patch.

Hmmm looks tempting according to what I read about your patch, and I've also checked your test map, looks good.

Now I understand what the patch does. However, I wouldn't download or install any patch for a development tool like FPSC if I don't exactly know how it does what it does. How is that performance increasement achieved? It simply removes the 1.85 GB limit or does it do anything else? As Thraxas stated, that limit has been there for a reason... how come you can remove it without having any problems?

And, having read the thread you linked in your first post, does this increasement work for players of my game using WinXP?

(sorry for so many sceptical questions... just curious, not meaning to troll or anything! )

I remember I used the 4GB patch, but that messed up FPSC. Even though I restored the original .exe for FPSC, it still didn't work. If this doesn't work, will it in anyway prevent an original, backed up .exe of FPSC from working? I can't afford a reformat of FPSC.

I'm too eager to try this!

It works perfectly for me and many others that used it but I'm not sure if it works with Windows XP, as I haven't tried it. But if you guys have windows 7 pro or higher you can get a virtual windows XP for free to test it.

Bump, I'm updating this soon, I forgot to make it modify buildsetup.ini, I'm also going to make it optimize lightmaps. Update to the patch.exe file will be uploaded to this post once it is ready.

EDIT: Patch uploaded, find it attached to this post.
EDIT2: Patch update added to first post.

Downloaded, extracted, installed, patched, NO DIFFERENCE WHAT SO EVER.
I even tried the new updated one from today, did a restart, ran FPSC-Cleaner, and I still get a 0% change. Anything I might be doing wrong?

The concept sounds awesome, I just wish I could see it in practice

Same thing it does to setup.ini:
systemmemorycapoff=1
lightmaptexsize=1024

@Susysyay
I have no idea then, it seems to make mine much faster and more responsive as others have said. What version of FPSC are you using, I heavily doubt that has anything to do with it, but it IS recommended that 1.19 is used since the frame cap isn't as low as it normally is. So the frame possibility is higher.
