Hello everyone.

I'm new around these parts and I have some question about FPSC:

is X10 a substantial upgrade to x9?

Can I include ambient music in my levels?

Is this enough to do a large-scale project. (A plot driven, character developing story)

How do I do an overlay UI that's custom?

I notice files are in .FPI - How can I learn to do my own scripting?

Thanks for answering these newb questions.

Thanks,
Kyrie

Well, with a little bit of looking around you could probably find most of your answers, but I thought I'd help supply a few links to get you going.

I asked a similar question in the x10 board a couple years back, you could read over the responses I got. There are also plenty of other threads where others asked this question that I'm sure you could dig up.

Mine is here.

Yes ambient music can be included, whether you find some or make some of your own. This can be added both in house through the FPSC global settings where you change the background music, or you can use sound zones with various music scripts provided.

As far as a large scale project goes, that ends up being sort of subjective. There have been some awesome large scale projects for FPSC done, such as Eldora by Rolfy, and Squadron AIU - Dark Storm by Deathcow.

Really, it's as much patience and creativity as you can muster. The engine obviously can't handle a massive studio project like current age AAA games. You're not going to make Skyrim. You could make something large, multi-leveled and brimming with an engaging plot, the whole nine yards, if you really wanted to though. It would take a lot of work on your end however, determination and learning how to model, texture, animate, and exploring the limitations and capabilities you have with FPSC. It's not going to happen over the winter holidays or something. But can never be ruled out!

For overlays, I'd probably check out Doomsters new Model Maker 2.0.7 as it says it supports overlay creation. I think that's what you're looking for, I might be wrong.

Xplosys' OverLaze may be more to your liking.

And for scripting in FPSC, you'll want to take a look at Plystire's thread here, and the Official Community Guide which can be found listed here.

Good luck with your projects!

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

Simply put, I do not want to use their UI at all. Where it shows health and stuff. I want nothing.

Welcome to the forum SexyDevYou.

I really can't add anything to Braden 713's post but I did want to comment on how excellent a post it is. Nice to see someone take the time help that way.

If you haven't already, check out the Official BOTB YouTube Channel to see what other have done. Best of luck with your dev.

Brian.

Oh, ok I think I see what you're saying.

First of all before you delete any of it, I'd suggest saving the information somewhere (even in just a notepad document), in case you want to revert back to the original settings for whatever reason down the road.

But, to have no health, ammo etc. overlays is as simple as going into FPSC Build Game -> Level Settings -> Global Script

Then, down to Status Panels where the overlay images are specified along with the numerics for placement on the screen during game. Lives Image, Lives Image X, Lives Image Y - Lives Numeric, Lives Numeric X, Lives Numeric Y - for example.

On all of these fields, if you want nothing, just delete all the numbers and path's. Like I said however, I recommend storing that information somewhere just in case.

Not sure if this answered your question but hopefully it helped.

Thanks Xplosys, I just always remember one of the best ways I learned things for FPSC was people linking threads I might not have ever found. There's a lot of cool treasures hidden around this community

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

Unhelpful Titles

Please do not simply write "Noob Question", "I am a newb", "One Noobie Question", "A question", "Please help", "This isn't working" or anything similar as the title of your post. We have a search facility, and meaningless titles do not help others find answers to their questions. It will also help you to get quicker responses if people have an idea of your thread content.

Great resources guys, thanks for putting them together. Here's a thread I had on X10: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=190518&b=33

And as Uman pointed out, try to title your thread a wee bit better

It was also a good idea that you mentioned you were a "noob". There have been a lot of new forum members lately and they never say they are a noob and they ask seemingly ridiculous questions. Hence, they are typically flamed, especially if they are rude.

Merry Christmas,

My sincere apologies,

Thank you so much for all the kind words and I am really looking forward to what I can do.

When you mentioned global scripts. Was that X10? OR X9?

Thanks so much guys,
Sexy

I don't personally have X10 but I'm sure global scripts is in both, as it's just the name of a section in your Build Game window within FPSCreator.

When you have FPSC open, if you go to the File drop-down menu, you'll find Build Game, and within that you'll see a tab along the top called Level Settings, which will give you the option to edit the 4 different Game Screens - Title Screen, Global Script, Game Over, and Game Complete. (Along with your list of levels). But it is within Global Script there, that you can edit/erase the life, ammo and health images in-game.

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.
