Using DBP 5.1 and I've run into the infamous disappearing model when I glue objects to it glitch. I've followed the old glue threads and none of the suggestions have worked.

Does anyone have any new ideas or suggestions on how to fix this problem? (Or even a clear idea why this happens...)

What I'm trying to do is add four limbs to a car and then add wheels to those limbs. Ideally, I'd like to just move the car and have the wheels follow along, while interacting with the terrain, etc. Alternate solutions to GLUE are welcome.

GLUE Object Work for me

Position Object FrameNum (the car frame at 0,0,0)
Position and rotate wheels appropriately

glue object to limb wheelNum,FrameNum,0

You should not need additional limbs

That's nice, but I don't want to bolt the wheels to the root limb. The idea is to create a floating suspension system like a monster truck.

"glue object to limb wheelNum,FrameNum,0"

I do see that you have the first and second objects swapped from what I do. I'll have to try that and see what happens. The docs seem to imply just the opposite.

Glue the wheel to the axel

Then

Glue the axel to the frame

Gee, why didn't I think of that?!

Now only if everthing didn't implode when I do it.

I think what makes this work is MAKE OBJECT BOX. I've tried exactly the same thing with loaded objects and things start going downhill. Still, perhaps I can use 'helper' boxes...

Check the "real" dead center of the objects
i.e. were they created at x,y,z 0,0,0

They were (I built them myself.) Using the helper boxes actually created the glue effect that I wanted and the wheels track with the body. This leads me to believe that the .X models I made have zero heirarchy data. That's something to further test tonight.

Of course, the big irony is that it now works, but I can't use it.

I wanted to do collision checking for each individual tire. But when I glue the objects together, they stop registering collision hits with the terrain. (They did before they were glued.) Sigh.

I was hoping for an easy way to avoid vector math. But, if I want 'smart' wheels with relative positioning, it looks like I'm going to have to go down that road. Well, it's been educational as well as aggravating.

Good idea, but not an option with the editor that I'm using. I've wasted three or four days on this problem. Given the new wrinkle with collision detection, I'm not going to waste any more time on gluing. Time to move on to other alternatives.

I could be way off but, wasn't there something to do with how you create an object eg. if you used mirror you had to flip or something? (its been ages)... And if you didn't the object collapsed in on its self.

That would be consistent with what I have seen, but I did not build the models with negative scales or flipped/mirrored parts.
