i just got this laptop.....not sure how to take pictures on it. but basically, FPSC worked perfect in version 1, so i went i downloaded the version 1.18 updater. i ran the updater, and deleted the .DBO and .BIN files (as recommended). But after the V1.18 updater finishes installing, i try to run FPSC and it stops quickly and has an error. here is the error message. "FPSC-MapEditor cannot write files to the program files area. ensure you have UAC switched off and that you are running as an administrator user."

Which OS are you using Vista or Windows 7?

Try right clicking and selecting 'run as administrator'...

For taking pictures or your screen for windows 7 go to start and type snipping tool. I have mine pinned to the taskbar because I use it so much. Also make sure you have UAC turned off, it will mess with you to no end.

The answer is simple, run as an administrator (for further inconvenience, create a shortcut that has the 'run as admin' thing checked under the 'compatibility' tab in the properties) and you should be fine from there.
basically..

UAC is User Account Control. It keeps ordinary users from screwing with the program files section and to keep hackers who break into a user out of there as well. The problem that causes is that any program that tries to access the Program Files folders (ie, save a file, readin configuration settings, etc.) is blocked. In order to allow programs to access this area, you must turn it off.

I run Vista; I can access UAC through User Accounts and Family Safety. UAC acts screwy on Vista; when it's off I can't access other accounts unless I was granted permission when it was ON.

Glad you got it working!
