Hey guys,
well, here's the story, yesterday I bought the orange box and half-life source on steam, they worked perfect, no lag or anything. Then today, all of a sudden whenever I move my mouse the game lags and most of the time gets 0fps when the mouse moves, however if I don't move the mouse at all I get no lag. I've looked all over the steam forums, other websites etc. but no luck, anyone here got any ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

SPECS (don't worry about integrated card, runs fpsc and games fine with no lag):
Acer eMachines
CPU: 900
RAM: 2GB
HDD: 250GB
Graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

What are your video settings set to? Try setting them to the lowest. Or try playing with a lower resolution. If that doesn't work I'm supposing it's your Graphics chipset causing the trouble.

Edit: Disregard the chipset thingy. I didn't read your post properly, but I'm still suggesting you replace it.

Your CPU is 900 what? The Source Engine is VERY CPU intensive, rather than GPU Intensive.

Check the mouse setting in the game's options.
Disable smoothing, acceleration or, if it has the option, set it to raw input.

@silvester
more detailed specs (from system properties):

Manufacturer: eMachines
Model: eMachines E525
Rating: 3.3 EDIT: Re-ran assessment, same results.
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz
2.19GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Windows Edition: Windows 7 Home Premium

@CoffeeGrunt
Actually, I can run source games on high with no lag or anything at all, this has just happened out of the blue for me.

@Everyone
None of these suggestions work, as I've already tried them. I think I found out the problem though (read this on another forum): the source engine uses WM_MOUSEMOVE for mouse finding instead of WM_INPUT. Anyone know what this means?

EDIT:
Windows Experience Index:

Processor: 4.4
Memory (RAM): 4.9
Graphics: 3.3
Gaming graphics: 3.3
Primary hard disk: 5.9

Lol celeron 900 series...

Anyhoo... try redusing your visuals and disable all shader effects... should get better response...

Steam... unless you ticked the check box to not show the message again does not support that chipset so forget about asking for support... just use lower effects... running on high without external cooling is a deathsentence for your laptop... and for the person who mentioned to replace the gpu... he cant... and umm yeah you must be ignoring the not supported chipset messages...

But just fiddle with the input... you can also try disabling desktop composition... its hungry for cpu time while a game is running in full screen... theres a thought try run in a window...

EDIT

I miss the old days when games ran faster in window mode lol...

Yeah, I used to get this a long time ago as well, but I fixed it by going into windowed mode and it fixed it, now not even that works, but I'll try your method and see if that helps, and I have an external cooler connected up, so high settings isn't a problem. Also, visuals and shader effects never used to change my performance in source anyway, I seem to always get high FPS on those games, now it is still the same, just lags when I move my mouse.

A pro gamer friend of mine always does something that annoys me... he disables hardware accelloration in control panel...

Maybe try that if not already done so... also try running task manager in the background... it has a strange habit of whipping my applications into shape...

Thanks again, I have also gotten it to work in fullscreen again too. I do the same method except I go back to full screen then alt-tab out to steam, then alt-tab back into the game and it works perfect again! I'll be posting this on the steam forums and giving credit to everybody who posted here.
