Is the map stored somewhere in the built game folder?

Sorry mate, but you can't recover your map. When a map is built, it is converted into a model instead of a map. Unless a model2map converter is released, there is currently no hope for you. Sorry about that.

Urm if you are using vista HP or win 7 HP or above you can try previous versions of your project file ... aaaaah thats why I use time lapse disk imaging

EDIT

Another method is to save new editions of each build... consumes space but saves broken brain cells from sadness infections...

Sorry to hear that, that's something I've done in the past and this is why you should always have two versions of your maps saved.

I reject your reality and substitute my own...

Couldn't you restore your PC to a time BEFORE you overwrote the map?

Cheers,
Anayar

A normal Windows system restore would only restore the Windows System. Unless he had been doing regular backups or system images, then that wouldn't help.

It can't be stressed enough. Backup, backup, BACKUP!

Also as mentioned above, save your levels at regular intervals with different names so that you have a few copies all the time. If you find you've messed up, you can go back a save-or-two and not be that far behind.

This is true. Inside our development folder (inside the mapbank folder) are two folders- work and completed. The work folder is where we make our save(s) as we work, and each time we work on the level it is saved as level01_001.fpm, level01_002.fpm, etc. When that level is completed, we save in the completed folder as level01_completed_001.fpm.

Exactly. It can't be stressed enough. We use SyncBack to do our backups each night to an external drive for all our systems. But there are many alternate methods one can use.

hiya collin

see if you can find a program on the n et called fileundelete
i used it in the past to recover files, but even if yo do undelete it ,It may be a be truncated, but its worth a shot, also the program jusr does not only underlete . it also does other fixes of file, to much for me to typo here m8
or try this
How do I recover files I have overwritten in Windows XP and Vista
Microsoft has a feature built into Windows XP & Vista called “Volume Shadow Copy” which creates a snapshot of documents that you save to your machine. This allows you to easily recover files that have been overwritten in Windows XP or Vista. Below is a set of instructions on how you can recover a file which has been overwritten.
Windows XP

Recovering a file that has been overwritten in Windows XP:

Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the folder where the file you would like to recover resides.
Right Click on the file you would like to recover
Select Properties
Click on the “Previous Versions” tab
Select the version you would like to restore.
Click Restore. If you select Copy, it will prompt you for a location to restore the file to. This will allow you to retain the original in case you restore an incorrect version.
(If you are not sure which version would like to restore, click View to preview the file before restoring)

Recovering a file that has been overwritten in Windows Vista:

Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the folder where the file you would like to recover resides.
Right Click on the file you would like to recover
Select Properties
Click on the “Previous Versions” tab
Select the version you would like to restore.
Click Restore. If you select Copy, it will prompt you for a location to restore the file to. This will allow you to retain the original in case you restore an incorrect version.
(If you are not sure which version would like to restore, click View to preview the file before restoring)

have a looksy here

As mentioend, like me i alway have 3 copies of my hard work, and i leap over each one on a new day or after a save so if i make a boo boo i can also revert back to a previuos one and still keep a so called original

best of luck m8

I'am not GOD but i can make you see again by taking my fingers out of your eyes and i can make you walk again by taking your beer away, but if you take my beer you will not walk again
