Howdy,

I am interested in including some title and logo animations to the intro of my game. I notice that a few games in these forums have them.

What softwares do people use?

I have looked for 2D animation software on Google, but, i don't think that is what i am looking for. I have Blender and am still very much an amateur with it, but i can use its more basic functions.

iya hiya

If you are good at scripting then try doing it in DBPro

I am planning to do this myself so just thought I would share the idea... You can then use something like fraps or CamStudio... To export the video or start an image stream into a folder and manipulate that....

There is also Vishnu Game Launcher. Barring that, some of us make our own (like my wife and I) in Visual Basic or DBP. You will need to have/know VB/DBP to use those though.

@MrValentine

Thanks for the advice man, but, my scripting knowledge is fairly limited, i am more of an arts and crafts kinda guy!

@Section 812

I already have the Infector Program. It works great, but, not what i am looking for.

@BlackFox

I have DBP as it came with the winter warmer bundle, but, knowledge of how to use it is lacking. I was looking for some software that is similar to Blender or Gimp (no scripting) that i could use.

@maho76

I thought this was just for adding effects to videos? I might have to look at this more.

Thanks for everyone's responses

I have Blender and i think that is the way i should go for now. But, if anyone else has any ideas of any software that might be good to use, please let me know.

what else is a title animation?

aftereffects is THE pro-software for title-generation and effects.

take a look at creativecow.net to see whats possible (i cant^^) , awesome tutorial-site.

nevertheless you can do most things with blender, too, but it could be more complicated with some effects.

Very true my friend. I guess it is that simple when you look at it like that.

well, if you are in school or student, there is a student-version of the whole actual creative suite for under 500, single aftereffects under 150 i think.

after-effects standalone... well you should try it first because its very complex. easy, but very complex. go adobe.com and search for 30day trial.

5.5 64bit (german i think):
http://adobe-after-effects-professional.softonic.de/
or adobe.com directhit.

or look at ebay or elsewhere to get a version 5.0 and up. could be that you can find a free-version of an older one in the net (adobe is a nice company who knows that the kids of today are users of tomorrow )

but what you want to do is basically a 2d/3d effect-text. so you can do it with a combination of blender and gimp, too. load 3d+textures/pics with alphafade, create layer on layer to blender and add some effects, thats the same after effects does. if you can handle blender using all the effect-plugins, particles and stuff, you can do everything you want, but could get very complicated when complex. thats the moment where ae (aftereffects) is way easier to handle. same with photoshop to ... any other 2d-painter.^^

YES! i am an adobe-fanboy.

Here are some apps that are designed for making 3D animated text and logo's if that's what your looking for, some video editing software
have these features aswell

Aurora 3D Animation Maker

Xara 3D Maker

MotionStudio 3D

I have the Motion Studio 3D it works very well, I also just purchased Corel Video Studio X4 ultimate upgrade for $49 and it comes with the Boris Graffiti Plugin that is very cool.

I whipped this one up using Video Studio X4 with the Boris Graffiti plugin just now.

LBS logo Whip

you can also use Flash Authoring software to make animated 2D text, and export it as and AVI instead of Flash most Flash Authoring software support export of various formats

Flash Apps

IncrediFlash XTreme

SWiSH Max4

Kool Moves

If you really want to know,

Sony Vegas Pro or After Effects. Pretty much every other video-editing program comes off as a cheap knockoff with bad quality.

Nuke is also good but it's way too advanced for someone just coming into editing.
