I believe the problem is that the DirectX is currently installed at 11 and when I go to try to install 9. Well it tells me that there is a later version installed and to effectively bugger off.

The outcome is the DB compiler starts and runs in process's but, it does not actually have a window nor does anything else come up.

Does anyone have any ideas how to remedy this problem?

Use this installer for DirectX 9c http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35 should install and/or update to newest version without a problem. If you are logged in as administrator.

Also when you are using it on a windows 7 machine use this release.

As with the above mention... you will also still need to install DX9c alongside your current system...
