You can't use Naruto, he is a copy righted character and you don't have the rights to use him (same with any other form of media like music, video, etc.) Plus why would you just want to copy a character (and from a pretty lame show at that), you should learn to model, it's good experience.

basically our college assignment is to make a game using dark basic pro, and i wanted to make a naruto platformer as my one, but cause im new to dbp i dont know how to make/use sprites nor how to make 2d platformers cause there are none on you tube, so i went with imporiting models, which is what i can do. this will not be an actual game as in one on the internet or anything, simply for the purpose of this assignment

I recommend he start out with 3DS Max 9 or better. Here is a short list of Free modeling tools for DBPro.
Blender: http://www.blender.org/
Google Sketchup: http://sketchup.google.com/
DirectX exporter for Sketchup: http://www.3drad.com/Google-SketchUp-To-DirectX-XNA-Exporter-Plug-in.htm
3D Canvas/Crafter: http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2093

If you had ordered the Dark Game Studio DVD, You would have an X export email from TGC for the 3D Crafter. That is the only difference between the Free version and the "Special edition"

I don't see the problem with using a copyrighted character for a college assignment . More than that, did the person who modelled the character ask for permission? I just cannot tell...

Just base it as a fan project; so as long as you do not intend to sell it, a fan project is what it would be seen as. There are many sonic and mario games out there created by their fans.

Now I do not watch cartoons anymore (except movies; Finding Nemo, Ice Age etc), but I doubt you will find someone who will provide a free Naruto model; since it would take 1 or 2 days to model.

Again, learning one of the previously mentioned 3D modelling programs is recommended if you are desperate. Otherwise, consider using still image based scenes.

I am sure someone out there has created a Naruto game for non-commercial purposes.

download this
http://thefree3dmodels.com/stuff/characters/naruto/14-1-0-1620

google Blender, download and install blender(see 3d forums for further aid rigging and animation) I am pretty sure someone has sorted out the export of xfiles so they arent bloated for dbp(which was an issue for some) - use this sites google search at bottom of forum page to find out more; otherwise version 2.46 Blender works fine when exported in dbp

edit: to be clear this is just a site I found

Or take an hour to learn how to use sprites in dbp... it really isnt that hard. You're doing this for college so Im assuming the point is that you're supposed to be learning the language / how to program? So... wouldnt this be part of that learning process?

Furthermore if your college actually is specifically teaching you with Dark Basic Pro and they have assigned you something like this, I have my doubts that they wouldnt go over some sort of lecture on what you'll need to know / read up on to accomplish the task.

Further furthermore, if you're still determined not to figure out the methodology behind using sprites and the 2D functionality of DBP, you can always just create a square plain and texture it with an image of Naruto with a transparent background. Need it animated? Assuming you've got a sprite sheet of naruto's animations, load it in, split the image up using the get image command, store each image in an array, create a basic timer that goes off every x milleseconds changing the current texture on the plain to the next image in the array, add a condition that checks if the array element trying to be used is greater than the size of the array and if so start back at the first indice of the array, and finish off with only causing the timer to update the frame when the player is moving.

If your college is not teaching you any of this and allowing you to put anything together not caring how you go about creating the functionality (IE by using sprites, models or some other method), I would reconsider your choice of school.

@ruccus,
dont get me wrong, i would so love to learn how to use sprite on dark basic pro, i originally wanted to and have a very nice sprite sheet.
however my teacher will not show me how to use sprites ( god knows why ) and the only book in the livrary on sprites is unnaturally complicated, and after intense searching on you tube i have been unable to find any sprite tutorials. so i have been forced to use a model and skin . . .
if you would or you know anything or anyone that can show me how to use sprites and make 2D platformers in dark basic pro i would be very grateful.
i am kinda knew to the whole game design thing and only know the basics but i am extremely interested in this and am willing to learn

I havent programmed in DBP for a couple of years now, but if my memory serves me correctly:

Step 1. Load an image in for a sprite

Step 2. Create a run loop

Thats the main framework down, now add some control:

Modify the run loop to suit this:

Its all pretty basic stuff that you could easily find if you looked in the Sprite command list that comes with DBP or did a quick search on the forums for how to use sprites. These questions have been around for coming on a decade now, and the answers havent changed.
