Hi,
im quite new to Dark Basic Profesional and im currently trying to make a 2D platformer, the problem is i do not quite understand 2d in dark basic and cannot find help on you tube nor the forums, the main things i am stuck on are:
- Sprite Sheets: i have no idea how to turn the sheet of sprites into several different animations in dbpro, mainly how to get parts of the sheet and compile them and then call upon them in the code
- Physics: i do not know how to apply physics to the game or more specifically gravity, all i can do at the moment is get a plain strite image and move it up, down, left, right, i need to make it so it walks along the ground and jump instead of just going straight up.
- Continuous Animations: i am unsure on how to make it so when one holds down the left arrow key, the character will run left but has a part at the start of the run anumation where a dust cloud apears then fades away next to the feed of the character, id assume the animation will just replay over and over, but id prefer it if it only made the dust over the first second the arrow key is held down and the last 2 sprites kept replaying over and over till the arrow key is no longer held down. i may only not know how to do this cause i dont know how to do regular animation in dbpro though.
- Collision: i was hoping for the basic game to be 2 player where you pretty much fight eachother in an arena but have been unable to find anything on collision either, i need the 2 players to do damage to eachother

Pretty much all i have at this point is several large sprite sheets, sprites that i cropped out of a sheet in PHOTOSHOP ( not sure if i will need them ), Dark Basic Pro (ofcoarse), and the determination to learn how to use this awesome peice of software.

Hi AzsGamer.
Pick up Hands on dbpro (it help me learn most of the concepts you're inquiring about - sprite movement, animation, collision).
Once you work through the first book you'll have a strong grasp on these. Check the DBpro newcomers thread for the tutorial sticky. I think there is a sprite tutorial there.

As for gravity you'll have to create your own equation for that for now unless you have a copy of dark physics, which is likely too complex for just jumping. You may want to study up on some basic phsyics of projectile motion for that.

Work hard at the tutorials, they'll get you far.
Good luck.

thanks, i remember hearing our college has that in the library but people keep taking it out, ill try to reserve it soon.
in the meantime i have been making a 3D game for the college assignment i have to do this for, 3D seems so much easier, the only thing i cant do on this though ar things like:
-correlation between the players score and the speed of the incoming objects
-putting textures over the objects so it can be obvous what they are (player, health packs, enemies, score bubbles)

but i got most of it down, its so addictive once you really get into it
if you know how to do these two things then that would be great, if not ill take a look in that hands on dbpro book next week
