Hello all! I have decided I really want to be in game design for a living. I realized fpsc will not complete the tasks needed to make a sellable game. Fps creator was the best tool to help someone to reslize if they really are intrested in game design. I have learned tons thanks to this amazing community and all there support and free models. Im currently learning how to use UDK (Unreal Development Kit) along with modeling and animation in blender. I just wanted to give a farewell and special thanks to the community. Thanks for everything!

Hello NIlooc223,

It's always nice to see someone trying to change, seeking something better than he has at the moment, I've done this several time in the past and still do today, not so often as before I must confess.

However, before you start to study the UDK game engine, you might find out if the game engine has a decent artificial intelligence system for the type of game you want to do I mean if you intend to making fps game genre, previously look for if the UDK has an artificial intelligence system ready to use, specifically for fps genre game.

Another example, if you want to make a car racing game genre, like "need for speed" game or something like that, previously find out if the game has an artificial intelligence system for cars and a physical system for cars and so on.

Why all this?

This will help you to save, especially a lot of time, effort and frustration because you do not need to do all the UDK or another game engine else out there, basic and advanced course to discover at the end that the program does not offer any artificial intelligence system ready for use for you to build the games of your dreams. Trust me, because I already have suffered many frustrations and waste my time with other game engines just to check at the end that I could not make any decent game, because those programs were just fantastic rendering engines or simulators nothing else.

Someone might say: However, you can make all artificial intelligence programming from scratch : ai for combat, ai for movements, pathfinding system and another artificial intelligence stuffs. Of course, I could if I was an eternal person, or I had a few dozens of skilled and hired artificial intelligence programmers working for me day by day for weeks, months or years. It would be unnecessary to say, this option in my case it would be impossible.

Finally, I repeat my advice, make sure the game engine of your dreams has an artificial intelligence system decent and ready for you to make the games of your dreams, if not, then get ready for a very hard way to go ahead.

Having said that, my best wishes of luck for you.

Best regards,

Northern

Thanks man. It seems like yesterday we were helping each other out in the x10 forums, and you were making your segments.

However, I will point out one thing: You can definitely make a commercial-ready game in FPSC. Anderson & the Legacy of Cthulhu sold 30,000 copies, as confirmed by Ertlov. And his new project Into the Dark is getting quite popular on IMDB. Wolf's project PSISHOCK (I apologize if I got the name wrong) is gaining fame. His game Euthanasia also sparked political debate in Italy, if my memory serves me well. And not to mention Bugsy's grand achievement of being the most dedicated FPSC user in history (WWC has been in development for how many years?). Like anything, it just requires a bit of elbow grease.

Cheesehead for life.

Good luck dear friend,

We hope success for your work.

However, if you could instead of changing the engine (before changing to UDK), try to master your skills in a 3D Software (like blender), because you will see that sometimes, the 3D skills a person has may overcome the limitations of the engine.

See the work of Bond1 here in the foruns. His work are in the same quality as in example, COD Black Ops (the zombie apocalypse II).

And also, if you could study FPI Script well, mainly understand the use of variables, in other words, if you could master FPS Creator and master a 3D software, be sure you could come up with an awesome game, so much good as any game created with UDK, Crysis Engine, and such.

Trust me,

Just try it,

Cheers.

Yes, study, study a lot. If you want to create a good game, regardless the engine, you must have knowledge first.

I respect all the folks here in those foruns, however, i think that the reason why we did not see an awesome game made with FPSC until now is because the marjority of the people who use FPSC, they do not spend time on polishing the game as they needed to.

I know there are a lot of skilled people here, but i think that they do not spend the time that is needed to make their games look better.

And other problem is the lack of custom media. Almost all users here they use model pack 9 and model pack 10 for their weapons.

Indeed, those are very good model packs, however, if you want to create an awesome game, you need to create by yourself a lot of awesome media.

Also, FPI Script is not so limited as many people think. Off course it has less power than, lets say, Unreal Kismet (scripting in unreal engine), however, if an user can master FPI Script, he can simulate almost the same thing that Unreal Scripting does.

So i am not criticizing any one, however, it`s true the fact that the FPSC users they don`t spend enough time on learning and developing their skills. They stay content only using model packs, pre-made segments, instead of creating their own media.

Sorry if anyone felt this as an offense, i did not intend to do so, i am just giving my personall opinion.

Again, i respect everyone here in this forum.

Cheers to all,

007

I am prejudice (partial) but I believe the combination of v119 and RPGmod tied together with excellent scripting will yield a game one could go "WOW" when they play it.

I agree with that 100%, providing RPG mod keeps up with the latest source, and there's no reason to assume it won't, I'd say that with a little hard work (well quite a lot, nothing comes easy), something impressive could be made.

I've a few final additions planned which should please a few people, and my understanding from Lee is that he still has further plans to develop FPSC, so it's far from dead and I think it will continue to grow.

I certainly understand when people want to move on when they see Unity and other engines, but I'm willing to bet that more 'small teams' have completed projects with FPSC then with any other engine.
