Not sure if MS considers verts to be normals; but have you tried reversing the normals?

I dont think there's an option in MS for reversing the normals,i'm guessing that reversing the verts has the same affect..
milkshape shows the model finehttp://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/526/milkpot.jpg/
so i'm thinking it could be somthing to do with exporting to .xfile?

errormessage from directX-viewer shows "unable to cast string into texture "C:love_pot.psd"

dont know what it means, but i dont think photoshop-files are the right format for textures. have you tried png or dds and using same filepath for texture as for x-file?
