I was recently played zelda on the gameboy again and decided that I wanted to do a game of similar style. I was too lazy to start but I was bored last night so I started and made this.

All the tiles are made as sprites.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to go about doing something like this. I have ideas about how to "texture" the sprites but this is a long method which I will do if I cant find an easier way, I also have an idea about placing items and collision areas. I suppose it would be easier if it were in true 3D but I can't seem to get the right camera perspective. Any help is appreciated.

Looks good so far
The more game coding I do the more I realise there are very few workable shortcuts.

Only thing that comes to mind is that you could create these shapes as 3D objects, texture them, render each one at the same location on screen (make the objects large and far away, to reduce distance scaling), grab the images and then use them as 2D sprites.
