for what ever reason DBpro would not complete it's compile. It would start to compile and instantly return to the editor. After reinstalling DBP everything worked fine for about two days. long story short, I'm on the third "reinstallation". Is there a quick fix for this and also is this XP related.

thanks, Deano

i used XP Pro, DBP, and DX9.1b SDK... everything worked for about 3 days on my computer... then messed up... in the proccess of trying to fix this and several other problems... i lost everything on my HD (83GB worth of info)... i rebuilt the computer from scratch... only difference is i never re-installed the DX SDK... and everything still works for me

so i dont "think" that it is a problem with just XP, may be a combination of things

Try getting the latest update. I run XP and DX 9, and everything works fine here.

Did you format your HD before installing the new OS? ( I just had to write that in another thread )

This strange!!! What is the spec of your computer? Windows XP is quite power hungry. DBPro use a fair amount of CPU. If XP needs it for other things then it is DB that will suffer!

Or perhaps, it is Microsoft trying to control us, and turn us away from glorius DB Pro into the depths of... dare I mention it.... Visual C++. AHHH I still have nightmares!! THE SEMI-COLONS!!!

It seams most people don't know this here. when you "upgrade" to xp alway do a clean install "upgrade" over 9x or me just causes problems.

That is true, but it doesn't explain why he got it to work a few times, and then it stopped. You would expect it either to work, or for it not to.

incidentally i didn't clean boot either when i upgraded it seems to me that everything that is using advanced directx feature is causing troubles (cubase and cooledit are both relying on directsound)

p.s. running dx9b
