Holy...

Okay, so I purchased the DarkGame Studio package, downloaded everything, but I am some what reluctant to get started installing everything.

Could someone give me some assistance in figuring out what needs to be installed and in what sequence?

It really should not matter as there are not many program dependencies in the package. Everything stands alone pretty much.

I am assuming you did not buy for a particular program.

First would probably be either DarkBasic Pro or DarkBasic Classic to get starter.
You may opt for the First Person Shooter (FPS Creator) if you want to start with something less programming laden, at least to start, but you will get more from probably DBP.

The rest of the package is tools that can be installed in any order.
I would recommend Cartography Shop as your next install, so that you can make interior levels.

If you are fluent in C++ you may also want to look at installing the DarkGDK first since it creates quicker programs, and if you already know c++ it will not take you much longer to learn if any longer at all.

If you have any issues there are several threads on this board to help you using the search feature.

I recommend installing everything outside of program files. Like in c:\tgc\whateverprogram

I suggest turning off the user account control (UAC) to be sure things run correctly especially if running on Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Okay. thank you for your replies.

Just to clarify, I have been using FPSC for quite some time and I am fairly fluent with it.

I purchased DarkGame Studio, in order for me to expand my knowledge of what TGC has to offer.

I learned a while back to do this with FPSC being as though I have had to do so many re-installs, before learning that I needed to go ahead and create sequential backups before updates and modifications. I curently run FPSC on a completely different drive from everything else and have been installing everything else within the same "The Game Creators" directory on that drive.

Unfortunantly I am not and when I purchased, for some reason, I assumed GDK.net was included and was not aware that is was a different package all together from GDK.

All is well though, I think I can make use of everything for learning purposes, if nothing else.

I just wish there was more documentation.

I am sure I will be popping up more in the Darkbasic boards since I purchased this package.

Again, thank you all for your replies, see you around the forums.

Lol! I thought it was Green Gandalf, and I wondered why he didn't have DBPro yet.

Is that a standard Avatar then?

I don't know how long term members can keep their Gamecreator Avatars. I have attached a new Avatar for Green Gandalf..

If it wasn't for the hair it would be a worryingly good likeness ...

Happened to me once on another thread - I read a post to check what I'd said and thought "I don't remember saying that". It was of course That Guy John again .

Sad when people start losing grip on reality. Perhaps I should retire.

@Pincho Paxton

Thanks for the offer but it'll probably cause even more confusion if I change at this stage. I tried changing my Avatar a few years ago (because someone from TGC was using it as well at the time) but found it confused me even more so I reverted to this one.

And, yes, it's one of the standard avatars.

Haha. Not that sinister. We do have a much smaller collider in our backyard here on Long Island, @ Brookhaven National Lab named RHIC. They are currently building a larger one. And there was a genuine fear from the public, that what they were doing there could cause a black hole. Some of those fears still persist today.

Here is an aerial photo of RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider)

Now if you consider the small size of Long Island, New York,, with regard to miles from North Shore to South Shore, and the fact that RHIC is 60 miles east of New York City,, the fact that it's here at all is a bit odd. Then consider Plum Island,, which is a few miles off the east end of Long Island??????

Long Island extends 118 miles (190 km) eastward from New York Harbor to Montauk Point, and has a maximum north-to-south expanse of 23 miles (37 km) between the northern Long Island Sound coast and the southern Atlantic coast.

Plum Island
