Hi guys im gonna try my hand at creating a 2d side scrollin beat em up in the same kind a style as final fight etc.. Can someone please tell mewhat graphics package to use for creatin 2d models i have anim8or, JTedit and the 3d games studio. As i am a virgin programmer i would appreciate if someone could tell me would the background in my game just be a simple BMP format or what? Please help..most appreciated guys.

i mean for creating character models by the way..incase people are thinking..what is he on about..i confuse myself sometimes

anim8or would probably be the only one you need. If you're good with it, you can create your characters there and export renders. You'd have to get some other program for the background and other effects. Mabe Paint Shop Pro?
If you are new to programming, you should try something else. This game would give quite alot of work. 3D is easier...

a simple BMP could give you trouble. I suggest (for example) various BMP's of platforms and a .lvl file which has all the coords for you to place the platforms on the screen.
