is on my web site. Its a 1-4 player screen (although due to some bugs in the joystick department), Players 1 & 2 cant be controlled yet.

The idea to run over the minimum number of tiles to progress to the next level (if there were any more at this stage).

There are various special tiles - speed up/down, invisible, and I'll be adding breakable ones later.

Collision detection at this stage is rather inaccurate (and the crafts are too small).

Should be sorted now - if you dont have any joysticks, then the controls will default to the mouse (which can produce some interesting effects).

I forgot to mention that mouse is used for moving mainly P3 (LMB to move), and keys for P4 (at the moment you cant move and turn at the same time).

When i tried to play i got an unknown controller error
and was also getting only 7fps, i know this system is a little sluggish but all the screen appeared to have was an untextured craft and a basic coloured tiles.

i'm running a 1280x1024 desktop but surely that should be running a little quicker no?

I got 0.5 fps

I pressed the arrow keys but nothing happened, maybe I got the controls wrong :\

I've temporary removed the collision detection and P1 & 2 controls (so you can only control P3 via the mouse and P4 for the keyboard).

You should now get around 40+ FPS in 4 player mode.

I got around 60 fps. I was baffled as to what I had to do, maybe you could enlighten me? It looks OK at the moment I guess, not much to comment on as I didn't know what to do, though on 3 player mode, there was a gap between the cameras where it was blue/white. Maybe you want to fix that.

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

No, the gap between the cameras is supposed be there - prevents different sections from merging into each other.

Get 50-60 fps. What is going on though and why does game take soooo long to load for what little it actually does.

All I see is four objects moving on a matrix!

Sorry to be so negative but I'm not impressed.

Doesn't take long to load at all for me - you've probably got an older machine...
Its not actually a matrix, its 21*21 (411) objects.

Well, from the time I double click icon to time that menu appears is about 45 seconds. Maybe I'm just impatient!

Laptop
P4 2.53Ghz
256MB
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (64MB nonshared) - Catalyst 3.7 (maybe update to 3.8 but don't see the point yet)
XP Home SP1

Most other exe's take 5-10 seconds.

When I double click icon, couple of seconds for windows to load it, 38 seconds of just a black screen, then blue screen and 5 seconds for little loading bar at bottom right to fill up.

Also after pressing escape to quit, it really struggles to get back to windows. Takes a good 25 seconds before screen has refreshed and hard disk stopped going mad.

Had a feeling you had an ATI card...

The only thing that may speed up loading is converting the bitmaps to PNG's when I've finished with them. The other possibility is that your portable cant cope with the 256*256 array I use...

Ran it on my desktop pc (athlon xp2000+,512mb,geforce ti4600,winXP).

Loads up in about 5 seconds! Also exits instantly!

Don't let Raven read this - another notch in his 'Nvidia beats ATI' bedpost. Trouble is, he's absolutely right.

Yes there is, just haven't told you what it is.

See my first post for the reason why

This is going to be interesting...
Richard - do you have an ATI graphics card ? Spec of machine is..? Did the single player menu fade down (and then the two options fade up, select, and fade down).

Hi,

Nope nothing faded up or down, the main menu that says single player at the top appeared I clicked on single player the menu vanished and bang locked the whole machine up.

I waited a good few mins as I know how long things can take to load in PRO, but the fact that I couldnt even CTRL+ALT+DEL out of the program lead me to believe there wasnt much point in waiting.

Spec,

Raven :

Notice how its the ATI users who are having problems
Glad you liked the mouse movement, but fancy not completing the first level...

Ermes :

Dont think anyone mentioned photo's - the file is availiable to download (if you are daring) in the Tech Section of my web site.

Richard :

Dont know how to stop the crashing on your machine - until the actual game starts, all I use are sprites...

Good luck - let me know if you've got an ATI card or something, ah, better...

On a slightly more serious note, its possible that the previous ATI compatability problems haven't been resolved in 5.1b (or they've moved to sprites) - the only time anything 3D appears is when the actual game starts - everything else is sprites, and modifying the alpha value of them.

Unless of course, someone was trying to run the program using DirectX8...

Its been updated again - you can now see the animated acid & breakable tiles. The title is now more or less complete.

Aside from the main game, I need to do a name entry and craft selection.

Ok I had another go at loading this, still same problem but can tell u better now what happens.

The options menu and things work fine so cant see it being the sprites.

When I click on single player the menu fades and then for a few seconds you can still move the mouse around before it locks up and I have to reset the computer.

From clicking the multi-player it loads the DLL level, and then creates 1-4 crafts, the cameras and then starts the game.

It sounds like your machine has a problem with the DLL level for some reason, especially if you dont get the text during loading. When it crashes, can you ALT+TAB ? If so, do an ALT+TAB and see if there are any windows behind.

Its been updated - the title system is more or less complete. Next, I'll be adding the collectables and dealing with the game.

For richardneil, I've added trace statements in the level loading routine. It creates a C:\OUTPUT.TXT file - if you can e-mail it to me, I can then see where it crashes your computer.
