I dare say my good man that you have almost all the key elements in place to recreate terraria, you are doing very good

Millenium7 since i don't own terraria / minecraft i decided to make a game like them. i do like watching a few let's playes ( waiting for direwold20 next video ).

There has been a few people tring to make the same game so i decided to post the code to help them. There are many things that i want to try out like new forms of getting the most speed out of the drawing the world and handling slopes collision.

If someone make a open project like this game i would join them.

I suggest getting Terraria as its extreamly impressive for a 2d game. Blows the hell out of minecraft and is also going retail i heard.

I Believe the terraria is one of the best games i've ever played to date! Its not just minning....it has bosses and everything!

Its a very enspiring game that fills me with alot of ideas and just shows ya how fun it is playing multiplayer in a sandbox enviroment.

I recomend getting it just to disect it and understand why it draws an audience and sales.

edit: gosh i sound like a sales guy...lol but im just saying its worth taking a closer look at it by playing it.

IF terraria goes retail i will get it. disect the game is problem for me i can not understand C but i can work out how it works by play a lot of it. i do like watching TotalBiscuit videos.

i'm currently working on clouds scrolling but i cannot add a Parallax scrolling background with the current way of drawing the world.

solid 250 to 350 fps with clouds and updated draw world. 400 fps if i remove sprite commands. The same trick should be able to handle smooth map scrolling with little to no slow down.

I have bee look at Alaror website. loved the water phisics going to add Cellular Automaton to my list of thing to try out.

terraria is on steam and has been on sale for some time..

In my opinion though minecraft wins over it though as the 3d lego block style creation is simply amazing. Terraria is just a 2d version of it with a few more bells n whistles (prolly cuz they are inifinitly more easy to program in.

You cant make a stunning castle in terraria on a hill with a moat and watch trees grow up around it. If I get to my 8cough* work pc anytime soon I'll do a screen cap to show you.

.. any how thumbs up to you lots of nice stuff going on keep it up.

I really did not know what to expect but, just for the fun of it, I downloaded this and ran it. Very pleasantly surprised to.

Unfortunately I can't test it on my usual real slow laptop to give you the FPS on that (we had a flood today), but it runs great on this and just the demo part of what you have so far lasted more than the norm. It's solid and it works 100%.

Deffo keep it up man!

Penfold... i will wait until it is in the shops before buying it.

WLGfx... sorry to her about you had a flood.

in the download is the cloud snippet. If i combine it with a trick from the game i could get even more fps. the trick is decoupling the logic from the drawing world by doing this there is a problem with the movement of the player. it is due by timer() command not being accreate.

The trick of the cloud is the world / clouds draw in a bitmap then copy to the main screen. only parts that need to be updated are.

sorry for not post a message in the past few days i have been having trouble with slope collision. I did get time based movement dune and mario style player movement. There is a small problem with the player jump height if i set to 60fps and vsync . The problem is the difference in height the playe is able to jump 7 block when is should be 6 block.

I have started to add the code that i need to get slope to work at the moment it draws them.

I'm going to have to change the collision style to a point based system. the best example of this is sonic.

after all this i can see why terraria does not have slope in it.

i think it is time to try somthing more fun to work on. lights and Cellular Automaton ( water ) sound fun but i could work on somthing crazy like working pistons or structure collapse.

little demo / snippet to test the light code. i did go with a Terraria style lights which look better than a minecraft style.

thre is still alot of optimization that is need before it is added to my game. getting around 1200 fps on my laptop around 300 fps for my pc.

in the attachment is the code / gfx and a exe.
