How do you turn off the mesh conversion from .x to .dbo?

I got your email (I remember that much); but, I can't remember what it was about.

Good to see you on the forums again.

BTW, I don't think you can turn it off because DBPro and thus FPSC uses only .dbo in the map editor and game. Of course, if I'm wrong someone please correct me.

The process is hard coded, and to be honest, I can't see why you'd need to. Maybe if you could explain why someone might be able to help a little more.

Scene Commander,

I want to be able to test full maps built outside of FPSC without having to import them into FPSC all the time.

I will try to explain...

I want to do a single map game build.
Say in FPSC I place a single entity named map in the center of the map and a start marker on top or next to it.
Then build game with only that map.
I want to be able to be able to edit or replace the mesh and textures for that entity, "The Map".

I have been fiddling around with building maps with Ac3d, and think this would help me speed up testing the maps a bit if I could just drop my map.x file into the built game and then run the game to have a look to see what it will look like without having to reload FPSC and place the new map into the editor and rebuild the "game".

Just a development option for testing.

Am I making any sense? If not, I can try to explain better...

can't be done without huge framerate drops. In order to render level geometry FPSC generates portal culling system out of your map. So, if you generate that once and then keep changing your map geometry the rendering would be all wrong. The only thing that would maybe work is an external map bulider which would only build your maps without all other things that FPSC builds. Then you would me able to swap the old map with the newly builded one and test it.

Okay, well being as though the conversion is hard coded.. and on top of that.. it kind of just *DINGED* in my head that DBPro can load .x files. It wouldnit be worth the trouble of trying to do this when I should be able to use DBPro.

Thanks for your feedback.

MODS: can you please lock this so it doesn't end up clogging up the first page in this board.
