Hello to all,

No offense to anyone but it seems to me that now has become a usage here at TGC forums some people interpret the role of Sheriffs finding them are entitled to decide on the types of questions that people should post and whether they should post them or not and where to place them.

In my opinion, this kind of behavior ends up being prejudicial and raising doubts in people willing to ask something or request something for fear of appearing stupid or idiots or afraid because might show up any sheriff on duty to censure them.

I think in these forums, there are moderators to monitor such problems and take appropriate action when necessary and not the Sheriffs on duty.

All the best,

Northern

I would like to think you would need to look at it in the context to make a determination. For example, if someone posts a question on why a model or hud is not doing something, nine times out of ten it is a script related question. When I reply, I usually "suggest" it should have gone to the script section for a quicker response since I lurk there more than anything. If by my "suggesting" is interpreted as being a "sheriff", then I apologize as that was not my intent.

I believe the same is said for other sections, such as the Models & Media section. For the most part, there are individuals here that are trying to help do their part in keeping the forums a bit more organized. It gets a bit tedious when you want to look up something related to scripts (for example) and you have to look in three sections instead of one.

If a new person posts in the incorrect section, it should be okay to point out that there is a specific section for the questions (example- script questions in scripts, model questions in models, etc) as long as it is done politely. If they choose to ignore the advice, then either the post is ignored or people feel the need to make their comments. If we are rude by telling them where to go, etc as you suggest, then we are guilty.

You also have to look at the global diversity on the forum. We have all types of people from all walks of life and at different age groups. I would not read into it too much. You learn who are the "valued" members that are open/willing to help you when you are in need of assistance.

rtfm, use google-search, wrong section... all this are (really helpfull) hints for the OP he should do or think about when/before posting. ok, one hint should be enough but thats works good here. Its a fact that nearly noone new to this looks into the manual, asking questions from page 3. Typical having a question, open a thread and the foxes come along and show him the thread 2 lines below with the same threadtitle, opened an hour before his own with the answer given.^^

i think its ok to push peoples nose into this (in a friendly way, of course) so they learn something and we dont have to answer the same question for the 50th time. When its a (simple) question that is last time asked 2 years before, no one here blames you for this (sometimes you get a nice clap so you dig this out again because some things are forgotten even by the veterans^^)

we where all nobbs, noobs whatever, but some of us found the googlesearch and looked through the forum-pages before asking for something. When you clock out that someone is only lazy up to the top and dont WANNA search, the sound gets harsher ... and its good to do so.

all in all this forum is really gentle ... no, wait... REALLY gentle ... sometimes more than neccessary in some cases.

Hello everybody,

First of all, I want to thank to both BlackFox and Maho76 for taking the time to write some nice comments about this thread.

No way, BlackFox I did not think that, I had done it myself already sometimes here in this forum.

Further, attempt to put someone in the correct direction and in a polite manner is usually a positive way to help a person, I do not have any doubts about it, and your viewpoint is right.

Actually, I forgot this detail about cultural differences, education and age groups of people and how those factors influence the way of being of each person. Sorry about it.

I did the same myself already sometimes here in this forum as well, and it's a good manner to help a person that needs additional informations about a subject.

Whether I try to help somebody, and I realize that the person does not want to help himself or herself, then I think... it's done! I cannot do anything else.

In my opinion, a forum is similar to a little society, so there are all sort of people there, some type more than others. Fortunately, this forum is a bit more gentle than others out there as you said, and I agree despite all.

Best wishes,

Northern
