Hi all, I am very happy to be in this forum, I hope learn a lot of all you.
I just begin to DarkBasicPro, I'm intermediate-advanced programer in vb6, I'm the creator of FrogCheat v1.1.

I need to know if it would be possible to create a world where can play at the same time 2000 users or more, something like WoW, for example, it would be a rpg online game. I know that I know I need to use a server.

Has anyone done something similar? Can anyone advise me about this?

Thanks in advance.

IF you have a big enough server (usage limit) and program it well 2000 shouldnt be a problem. AS you WOW does it so does runescape. The only one I'm not sure why it has such a small player per world count is the new star wars MMO.

I've used multisync and managed to get 50 players connected to my server program running everythig on my home PC. Its and issue of quality vs quantity in most cases. The better and more defined your multiplayer code is (ie the least amount of data passed as possible) the more players you can have on at once without issue.

If I were you I'd consider starting at 100 people playing..if your planning on doing this that is.

@ Psyke1: search in the Work in Progress for "BlueLight Online" threads.. it is an massive online rpg game. it never complited, but the server worked for massive player numbers without a problem. the server and the client were coded in darkbasic pro using the multisync plugin..

Possible, yes, but it requires some work for it to get there. I've not seen one attempt reach the finish line yet, but MMORPGs are big projects, however, some have had a decent crack at it and got the components down for building one.

If you wish to pursue it, then excellent, but generally if you're new to making video games, I think it's best to start off small, I think one of my regrets was entering in wanting to create something epic, yet not having ever written a game before. Of course, there's nothing wrong with you starting small with some of the gameplay elements you want to try and build on top by making your projects more complicated each time.
