Hello models and media forum,

I have been trying all day in vain to texture this stargate model. I have no experience with blender or any other program and cant seem to get it quite right.

At the moment I have used a program called "UV mapper" to create a map, then I have tried to apply a texture using photoshop. With very, very bad results!

Here are the resources, i would be indebted to you if you could put a texture on it:

[Attatched in the download: UV map for the model]

Stargate Model converted to .x:

[Model provided by 'Lord Millennium': http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=200 (.3ds)]

What it should look like:

My pathetic attempt:

Thanks for reading, I hope you can help.

Well a couple of things. Your UV overlays overlap giving you two front faces instead of just one. Another thing you can do is have you _D (diffuse map), make a copy and rename it to _I (illumination map) and fade out everything except those red "triangles". Then apply the illumination shader and it will give them a "glow".

I'll be honest with you, I don't want to touch it myself because your using "Stargate" a copyrighted name and entity. I'm assuming this is just for fun for you to mess around with so if that's the case it's ok but this looks like a great model to learn some texturing techniques on for yourself for future models.

Yes its not for a public game, although those have been done before - some by Airslide who is a prominant member of this community and I think he has used a similar model to mine.

I used a program to texture my own pot in the past, it was a lot easier to use than blender, I have a feeling it may be called anim8or and I will try that tomorrow but still any help is much appreciated.

@Toffeemouse, you are completely right, Blender has quite a steep learning curve. But once you know what you are doing Blender will be your new best friend.

If you want this too look really awesome, try adding some shader effect.

I don't want to mess with signing up for rapidshare, so if you can attached the file to the thread and I'll take a look at your model.

Here is a model of the stargate made by me yesterday for you. Now I used your image as the texture and made the model based off of it. It is just a simple cylinder with a quick texture. The difference between your maodel and this one is you can make simple changes to the texture and not have the problems you are having now. Your model has overlapping faces which make it difficult to texture without the original texture, so it is best to just make it from scratch.

With that being said, here is the model ingame with the water effect in the middle.

Here is the Download:

What I have done here is using your texture with a stock shader, I gave the stargate a glow. Then using Bond1's animated shader I got the water glowing water effect for the center.

All you have to do is unzip the files into the same files in your folder and have fun. I have everything ready, just don't change where everything goes without changing the fpe's.

I hope you enjoy. I would have done more for you, but I tore a tendon in my shoulder yesterday and typing with one hand is hard enough without trying to make models on top of it. All you need now is a proper ramp and braces to get that complete feeling.

Good luck and Look forward to seeing what you do with this.

I have removed the download until Toffeemouse responds to wanting or has it. I didn't realize it was a waste of my time to help out.
