Greetings all!

So, like so many, I purchased the DarkBASIC Pro Bonanza and the FPS Creator Bonanza. Now I've got things arriving by post, files to download, and a dozen iterations of DarkBASIC to sort through.

I hold in my hand a fancy DVD called DarkGAME Studio. Should I install this? The files from the Web site? What is the newest, most current version?

Succinctly: Where do I start?

Thanks for helping a confused designer...

If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I've used it) the DGS CD has a list of programs and by selecting a program and clicking install, it will launch the installer. Once installed (have your product key(s) on hand for the installation), you can update to the latest official release here or upgrade to the latest Release Candidate here.

Thanks, Hodgey. I'm going to give it a go and do the upgrades this morning. It isn't looking good if I can't manage to install the tools without help!

Sorry for the double post -- moderation is still reviewing my first reply, so I couldn't edit it.

Popped in the DVD and during the Operating System Check it indicated that I'm running Vista, which I'm not (Win7 64bit). I feel a disturbance in the force -- should I just use the download links and forgo this DVD entirely?

Hello there DAEvo

Welcome to the forums

Pretty much everything relating to DBPro should be downloaded really

its a bit of a UPDATE PATH MAZE but its fun if you keep everything organised as you download... also some files need to be installed before others... such as Dark Physics theres an original and then an update... install in succession order to save yourself from agony lol

also I usually do it like...

DBPro
Dark AI
Dark Lights
Dark AI EDIT I meant DARK PHYSICS here [overtired]
etc

I have a tutorial for us Win7x64 users...

Brace yourself

I have two versions available... one on my blog here

Which can be debated both here and on my blog

And the original post on the forum the link to which is also available on my blog

The one on my blog is edit able unlike the now locked thread on the forum so I can not update it any longer...

So I made use of my blog to allow for changes to the turorial...

Please debate it either here or on my blog its up to you

I hope this helps if not please just ask here anytime we are happy to help

I might consider making an installation video collection soon once I reformat [which is around April actually]

Also umm there is a folder called TGC CONVENTION 2008 or what not and I highly recommend you watch the videos on there for some insight into many things specially the one on streaming content ^^ very inspirational!!!

EDIT

YUP I DID TYPE DARK AI TWICE... ME = TIRED

Thanks, MrValentine!

It seems I may have done it "rong" then. I went from the DVD, authenticated, upgraded, and currently have Stuff That Works, but I'm not sure if it is The Right Stuff.

I did manage to install the programs THEN the updates, but I can't recall if it was in the order you suggested.

Your tutorials are welcome as is the Win 7 Problems thread. I searched and missed that, mainly because I was searching for install methods and not OS based issues.

Anyway, thanks again! I let you know how it pans out!

Thanks! It seems everything is working well enough. I've just experimented a bit with the editor and poked around to get my bearings. I have some art assets I used for a sprite-based parallax side scrolling game, so I'm going to try recreating it with DBPro. Need to brush up on quite a bit before I can start, but I figure -- dive right in!
