Guys, I need some help figuring things out about Shaders. I see that the Cave pack entities doesn't cast shadows, so I guess I need to add some sort of shader effect to things I want to cast a shadow correctly? How does that work? Any info out there on how to handle this?

Thanks.

Don't take their crap. lowball them every chance you get. keep them in check. don't let them get the better of you. give them one chance to prove themselves, and most importantly, don't use them too much.

as for the cave pack entities: make sure they're static objects, not dynamics, and in the .fpe file check to be sure that it says "castshadow=1" or something like that. I think that's important.

Hey W,

This might help, http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=186793&b=21

It can really bring your map to life. In your cave map you could easily put a lantern on the floor and use the directional lighting to cast the light on the cave floor or on top of whatever it is you want to cast a shadow.

Hope that made sense, I just closed blender after a 6 hr session.
third night in a row. I am seeing vertacies in my sleep.

Thanks for the input guys!

BTW: how do I create a directional light with a lantern? I will test it and see if I can figure out myself...

Yes, the castshadow=1 did it, even on segments, like the ladder segment.

Plus, I had to change setup.ini with this:

lightmaptexsize=512
lightmapquality=80

The only problem is my first level, it goes above 2G of memory.

Thanks guys!!

The main problem now is that stupid memory limit problem. How come it doesn't use virtual-memory?! I can't use a good quality setting for the light maps. :-(

I had to reduce to:

lightmaptexsize=256
lightmapquality=20

But it doesn't look as good...

I guess I will revise the whole level and remove as many lights as possible and start adding one by one again until I'm near the limit...

Actually, here's an important question, what are Shaders? I confused it with Shades, but I see its a different thing. I will try to search, but if someone could point me to the right direction...

Maybe in the link below you might find some useful informations to help you understand better the subject Shaders or effects as Shaders are called in FPSC.
