Hi, i am looking to make a simple database just so i can learn some different ways of storing and saving info and recalling it/editing it etc later. I was wondering if anyone had written something that i could follow. All i could find using search was a dead link.

I've found SQLite very easy to work with, but, in all honesty, ARRAYS have worked wonders for me in terms of speed and flexibility. Without know what exactly you are doing or the amount of data you need to store, that is all I can off by way of suggestions.

BUT... there are some really good coders here what will come along and give you some very specific tips.

Specifically the 20 September 2006 post from RiiDii. It may 'splain a few things.

Thanks for the reply. All i was after was a simple way of inputting simple information like numbers and text onto some form of gui, then it saving those records. Only to boost some things i should be practicing in DBpro.
For example:
A shopping database that asks for the name of an item of food (tomato)
Then asks the price it is in one shop(asda 99p), then the price it is in another (sainsburys £1.09) and if not known you fill in what you know and can update it later and save it out to a text file. Then perhaps the option to compare a list of the food items and where they are cheaper so like a query system that outputs to a text file. If i can do this i think it will help with other things i am trying to learn.

So to recap, a simple GUI, a method of storing and a query for sorting.

Thanks.

I wouldn't start with a database in DbPro. If I was making a Database I would use Visual Basic. It is better to start with a simple game in DBPro, like a card game. But it's up to you. You are starting on a project that will not be very useful when making games however.

to do this in the simple sense you need to learn 2 things.

how to store variables in a dimensional array.

and how to read and write data to your drive.

use the search tool and look for

dimensional array or DIMS and READ and WRITE to file. All three of these have example code inside DBPro. which should helpyou to understand them. then try and mege the two together.

I'm assuming you can already text to screen and now how to do input commands and IF statements and the like?

'Ooh 'eck chief'...'crumbs'
