I've spent a great deal of time searching the boards and didn't find the answer nor in the manual, plus I pressed all possible keys and combinations I could think of to disable to performance meters while testing levels. So.... is there a way, or is it hard coded into the engine?

My reason is I want to do in game videos which will be part of the game I'm working on, thus I need to not have the meter showing. If there isn't, then I guess I would have to "build" each level I want to do the videos in I guess.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I would also like to be able to do this. I hope you get a reply on how to do this.

Pretty sure it's hard coded. Send Lee or one of the mods here on the forums an email, but the easiest workaround is to simply crop that area of the frame out of the video. This is easiest if you use Vegas or Premier Pro. With those programs you can easily apply those changes for the entirety of a clip, and even save those 'fx' settings as a template so you can quickly apply them to the next video.
Hope that helps a little, if you want me to elaborate on that I can whip up a quick video example/tutorial for you

Fraps and Cam Studio allow you to do this as well (both are free). However, I don't know how easy or hard they are compared to Vegas or Premier Pro.

They are the capture software, I use Fraps all the time, it's great
So yes, what I would do is use one of these programs to capture your footage in-game, and use Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier Pro (editing programs) to refine the footage.
Good luck!

Brad,
Another option would be to build the level you are wanting to record.

And Here Is A Penguin:

That Guy John,
Would be faster if he was only recording once-off I agree, but if he wished to make 3-4+ video's, it would take too much time, as he could just record it all in a test-level then edit it all out in one go. Depends on what he has to do with his game though I guess.

Jimmy,
I agree, to an extent. Depends on if there would be details lost from cropping that he would want in the video as well.
Personally, I build levels individually as I work anyhow. So it isn't really an added step for me. I also keep separate fpm(s) saved, one of just the level design and ones with game play added because I re-use my maps.

Hmmm... This is true. It is a very small area, and it's at the very bottom of the screen, but there are other render problems that could arise from the cropping of it anyway.
Fair enough, well I guess it all depends on how Bradmadman wishes to use the content he is recording. I thought of doing a similar thing with one of my old game ideas years ago, but I never got around to it, I just built in the 'cutscenes' into gameplay. Seemed less time consuming :p

Just disable the in-game HUD like lives/score/weapon and just cut off the bottom Meter. This is more than achievable via screenshots/cropping of videos.

I meant that you can pre-select the area that will be recorded, so you don't need to do any cropping in post-production.

Thanks guys. A few ideas here I hadn't thought of for sure. I do own a registered version of Fraps, plus I also own Corel Video Studio X3. I'm pretty sure X3 can crop off that section of video, so I'm going to try that. I'm going to be doing a lot of videos for my game, so building each time I need to do one would be a pain.

I'm also utilizing some green screen effects for the game so cropping looks like my best bet. Thanks again everyone!

games look far better when readybuild than in testgame for me as i cant get them antialiased in test and also colordepth. also your system runs faster (lesser framedrop when frapped) because the editor is closed (wich has to be calculated in the background by the same cpu as the game when test).

i would recommend to buildgame when you want to do videos in the best quality possible. should be to present your game in a propper way.

Thanks Maho76. I did discover that my Corel X3 doesn't crop so I inserted a small black JPG at the bottom and it covers the health and ammo bar as well, making for a clean video. While Fraps doesn't seem to bog down the gameplayn in test mode, I will try what you suggested to see if it improves the video quality as I would like to present it as bvest as possible.
Thanks again.

Forgot about the quality aspect. Build the game first, my bad

Depends who and what the video is for. You can always pseudo-AA scenes and videos using blur effects to blend sharp edges in.

But in the first instance and if it's to be edited and produced in HD quality, I would also strongly recommend building.
