Hello everyone,

As you may be aware some users, such as Thraxas, are having performance related and other issues with the latest official patch released by TGC. It is my intention to fix these problems for the people having them by recoding version 1.19.

I will be starting from release 1.18 final (r473 http://code.google.com/p/fpscreatorengine/source/detail?r=473 ) and recoding all the features of 1.19 in what I feel is a better way which ensures that no performance is lost and in some cases actually increase the performance experienced by some users.

All source code will be made available and each new , frequent, update will be attached to this post for people to use and test.

I will be working on this until all the 1.19 official features have been added in. Anything which works in 1.18 will continue to work without the need for workarounds and documentation of each addition will be provided to help people start using these features in the best possible way.

For those of you who are not having issues with the current version then you can continue to use that version and have no need to comment on my work or use even use it. I look forward to providing users experiencing problems with a version of 1.19 which works for them while those for whom it works can continue to use the official release.

This sounds awesome.

Insanity is doing the same thing everyday, same job, same route, same people and thinking 'Today will be different', thinking that over and over again. But not doing anything different.

Awesome!

As I mentioned in my post about 1.19, the best build I ever had (performancewise) was 1.16+Fenix Mod so I can hardly wait to get my hands on your version of 1.19.

Thanks a lot!

This sounds like an excellent idea, I will be following this.
Looking forward to the performance increase.

EDIT:
Will you also be fixing physics errors, such as the falling through the floor bug?

This is a great thing to do, but it does fragment the codebase significantly. Because then you'll have to maintain this version so that it matches V120+ and the community will have to pick between this unofficial version and the official version. Why not collaborate with Scene Commander and make this overhaul be V120?

At this point I can only cite a famous softdrink ad:

"Having no choice is no fun"

I like to have fun so please don't merge.

Will be good to have another option.

But I just wish TGC would take official in-house handling of FPSC updates and confirm that this product actually has a future, rather than being kept alive by the community.

I'm looking forward to performance updates indeed. So this will be open source?

just a question to those who have problems with the new version, so i do not:

did you guys use Waspmod before installing the new version? maybe its the case that updating from 1.18 to 1.19 is the problem? maybe it helps to install wasp before updating for any reason? i dont know, i am no coder, maybe hockeykid knows the troubleshooting already. i just wanna help. if the code has to be rewritten, collaboration would be the best way in my opinion.

if not and you create a new code, shouldnt you declare this as a new mod for 1.18?

updated: v1.0 > v1.17 > v1.18beta16 > v1.18+wasp > v1.19beta7 > v1.19 and works very good until now, even with former build levels.

My problem is not the performance regarding framerate but regarding memory.

Fact is, that since I started very enthusiastically in 2009 I had to reduce the size of levels as well as the number of characters dynamic/objects more or less with each upgrade until I am now down to HALF of everything I could built then.

@storyteller: one reason for this is the updated stockmedia, mainly the characters and weapons because they added additional animations (before 1.18 x-file size was halfed from the new models simply because of added swimming animations and different weapon-handlings). the more stockbased -characters and -weapons in level, the more raise ram-use in build.
thats what i see since i am doing custom characters on my own, only building animations i need for the level where i use them, it saves a lot of ram-use.
what i see is that lightmapping needs more and more basic ram-capacity, the more lightened height-levels or distance to startmarker in use, the more ram is needed for lightmapping (and the ram-use is only fixed by levelsize and used textures and shaders, not objects. i can add 1000 statics more or less, ram-use for lightmapping stays the same as long as i use the same amount of mapsize and the same textures/shaders).

maybe this is all nonsense, maybe it helps to find some basic problems ( i hope so).

also remember that an update resets the lightmapping and texture-quality for build-process so you have to check it in the setup-files, but i think nearly all of you know this (especially because mainly the more experienced members have probs here).

Hey guys,
I decided I'm going to put this project on hold until we see how the "V119 Top Ten Issues" turns out.
