I've searched Google and these forums, yet found nothing on how to fix this crash...

Most of my DBPro programs work fine, but my main project keeps crashing. I have Windows 7 64-bit, the latest Directx 9 (June 2010) 4 Gigs of RAM and an nVidia 9800 GT+ card.

Here's the crash info:

I've visited the Compatibility thread and done everything suggested there...

Any help here would be great!

Are you sure its a dll problem?

Have you changed something that would make it crash?

Tried reverting back before it happened?

I have gotten a crash couple times before. Had to change back to a backup, Later to find out it was something i added.

I'm thinking that may be what's going on, not really sure...I did find in another program that using inkey$() caused ntdll.dll to crash, so I took that out...

So far, it hasn't worked in Win 7. I just upgrade from Win XP a few weeks ago, so I really have nothing to fall back on codewise.

It does work for a few seconds, but as soon as I start to look around the level (FPS game), it crashes.

I'm working on a stripped down version of the game, slowly taking things out to see what may be causing the crash...

I tried step-thru mode, it crashes every time at SYNC...after running thru the main loop several times and only after I've looked around a bit. Strange...

No, I didn't think of entry, I just used scancode instead, but thanks for the suggestion

So far I've narrowed the problem down to my actor loader code (loads weapons, powerups, that sort of thing) possibly a memory leak somewhere...

I at one point I had random issues with the dark basic installation which caused similar issues. I reinstalled dark basic pro and directX and the issues cleared up.

the dll is for directx. there are some help topics i found that said to copy the dll to the dark basic folder. I think from memory it didnt really help, every time it compiled i got same error.

Sometimes I like to use words out of contents

Yeah I tried copying the dll to the folder also, didn't work. When I remove the function call to my actor loader, it works for about a minute or so longer, then crashes again. This is really starting to sound like a memory issue, tho I had no problems at all in XP, and I had only 2 gigs of ram back then...

Anyway, until I can figure all this out, Phenom is on hold for now, the FPS version anyway...

The Tower Defense version still works perfectly, I didn't have to tweak it at all

Found it!

Can't believe I didn't remember this...
Me and some friends had tested Phenom a long while back, and we had found that everyone with Win 7 would crash unless we disabled shaders in the config file...

Evidently, Dx9 shaders (the ones I'm using anyway) and Win 7 do not get along.

Anyway, they're not such a big deal, and the game is back to working. I'll post a new build of it soon in the Program Announcements forum, need to work out some more bugs and edit out some redundant code.
