Hey all,

LAtely I've been getting into the outdoor side of fpsc map creation and have decided to have a go at hand modeling some terrain.

I used gmax for these as milkshape or something similar just would not work for something of this size. The terrain is also just a 1x1 segment with the giant mesh on it and is mapped to a 3072 by 1536 pixel tga image.

FPS stays in the 70s on my dell laptop.

They actually look really decent too!

Unfortunately there are some areas where the player has collision problems and will do a sort of ice skate across the terrain if you dont jump over the area where it happens... maybe some rewelding might fix that? or maybe a collision mesh?

I also am uploading these to my turbosquid account and will make more when I get the time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks CP!

Once I find out how to solve this collision issue maybe I'll make a model pack

Indeed Looks great, experiment with different heights. How are enemies reacting to the hills? experiment with lots of scenarios , you seem to have a knack.

I havent tested characters yet, but I think solving the problem with player collision would be the first thing for me to take care of right now.

I like the look of your terrain landscape but would like to add that if you are having problems with 'just' the player collision at the moment, you will most likely have a 'big' problem with Enemy collision.
I have always managed to get the Player to walk on un-even terrain but have always had problems with Enemy AI.

A suggestion would be to quickly test this with your Map.

Its not like I cant walk or anything, just over certain points the player will get caught and "skate" accross the model until it falls off the edge. He'll even go up the steep cliffs and I cant control it. I can still walk on it on other areas thoigh just fine if I try to remember where the skating happens and avoid it.

I can post the segment if you like to test it out.

Is it a single mesh, or did you break it up into single segment block pieces and arrange them as a prefab in FPSC? Unfortunately if you don't do this enemy's and AI will not be able to traverse the terrain.

Josh is right. I think its best to use "large" terrain models as background props. Try adding a NPC on thst terrain, he will start bouncing up and down or will be unable to move at all.

I'm sure someone will take a look at it if all the correct files are supplied but I'm out on this due to problems with my PC's.

All the best of luck with this

Yeah I think I have to slice it, I just put the whole mesh in a 1x1 segment. Hopefully that will get rid of the problem...

Ill try it and seewhat happens
