Didn't it use to be that moderators would review topics and actually post that people use the search function?

Leon: I was going to reply and lock this thread, but then I remembered the whole heap of emails I got the other week saying I should not post on the forum and that I'm the worst mod because I have opinions. So I was leaving it for one of the good mods to deal with.

So....someone has an opinion on a mod having opinions...I would be interested in everyone's opinion on this

Awesome! Its one of those threads.

So, people say you're a bad mod because you don't agree with them? WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO!? I just can't believe some people in this world.

I don't care that they don't agree with me or what I have to say. I'm just over the abusive emails.

As for this issue, whenever we have a new update we get flooded with these threads. If people read the stickies then we would never have one of these threads. Maybe each new build needs to open the users browser and go to the sticky thread after installation

That's not a half bad idea, you should contact Lee and ask him about that (yes, I'm serious), it would stop all these damn complaints.

I have to say, I actually agree with Thraxus. The problem is that no-one bothers to read the stickies. On top of that, no-one (or very few people anyway) bothers to use the search function or read the FPSC manual & Community Guides.

I'm sure if people did all 3 of those before posting, the number of pointless, repetitive threads would be cut drastically...

First of all, this thread is not about his FPSC turning free; but, maybe I'm reading these responses wrong. What I hear him saying is a question -- asking why we are getting so many of these threads when we really shouldn't be. Look at his comments:

Quote: "Is the search button not working . . ."

Then he asks,

Quote: "So why ???"

He now makes, what I think is a good suggestion:

Maybe This forum needs a read first page before you can enter.

Or I would say before you are accepted as a member, though, I don't think this will happen. Maybe TGC likes the questions being asked over and over again. This increases the count of how many threads there are that they can advertise. I rarely respond to a question that has been asked if I know it has been asked a hundred times before, unless it is very easy to answer.

Yes, but if people read the stickies then this thread, too, wouldn't be needed.

His so why comment was asking about post approval and why if mods are approving posts are they approving ones about fpsc free. I think it's twofold: 1)if we delete threads before they're approved then often the user will simply create it again thinking it didn't work the first time and 2) sometimes I think the moderators don't read all the posts properly on the post approval page before hitting the approve all button.

Where's the sticky about FPSC turning free? I don't see it. And so what is wrong with chatting about too many posts asking the same questions?

If there is a requirement about reading certain things (for example "FPSC turning free," or at least checking off the fact that you will read stickies before you post!

Sticky here.

At the very least, I read them and pass them on to others for their benefit when required.

All FPSC updates are free and have always been which is great value considering how much work has gone into it.

Most of the mods are free and have been included at least in part to the official engine.

Almost all of the the media on the forums is free outside of the official model packs. If you compare the price of models for other engines out there the price is sky high in comparison.

All things considered FPSC is ridiculously good value for money. Making the entire engine completely free would be a disservice to TGC and the service they are trying to provide.

Thanks BF. This goes to show that if I can't find the sticky (didn't think about looking in FPSC Bug Report) then a newbie won't be able to find it. They're in chat forum just as I was. Maybe it should be moved because this is where they will think about posting a question about it?

How about an update in the UI design of this forum. Add the "search form" to the header of this site instead of having it in the footer.

Something that would entice people to use the search function.

Ill do a mockup, show you what I mean.

Is a bear Catholic? Does the Pope crap in the woods?
Or that might be the other way around, but you know what I mean.

I was thinking it might be neat if there was a "readme" included with the updates, just like the "cleaning tool" that wants to run just after an update, but why would anyone read it? Even if you made it a part of the install, like a license agreement, no one would read it. Just click, click, click, hey! What happened?

So.... I vote we just ignore the questions that we either don't want to answer or think have been answered too many times because someone will answer it for us.

And now... on to more important things.

Quote: "So....someone has an opinion on a mod having opinions...I would be interested in everyone's opinion on this"

In my opinion, concerning the question of opinions when it comes to moderator opinions, it shall be at the moderators discretion as to whether his or her opinion is relevant, and therefore pertinent to the current discussion, but only if the the opinion would not be construed as moderation or otherwise non-opinion, or non-constructive, and so may or may not be given as seen appropriate by the moderator in question. Certainly, this is the most clear course of action concerning the matter.

Brian.

I often find answers to the questions to be overly flippant so that reasonable, novel questions get ignored. I've updated FPSC more times than I care to remember, but it was only on the most recent update that I faced this problem, and the advice in the threads currently about didn't do anything to help. I can't even remember the hoops I had to jump through to solve the problem.

That said, ignoring several threads because they're asking all asking the same stupid questions isn't the most arduous task a human has to perform.

The issue also has it's own section in the Master Sticky (which apparently certain people choose not to read, no matter how you present it) here.

Sorry; but we can't hold everyone's hand for every little thing around here. If this pops up, and the person cannot be bothered to do a minimal search on the issue; then perhaps a kind soul will simply point them to one of the numerous threads on the matter.
