As the title suggests.. Is it just a code editor of which I already had many.. Or is there a physical editor hidden somewhere I don't know about?

Thanks,

Rad

Physical Editor? Ey?

Or are you asking about things like map editors, audio, music, 3d modelling, etc? There are plenty of these around and some for free too but DBPro is a programming language in BASIC with a lot of functionality to it.

it's not a physical editor no. Everything must be placed, positioned or created in code. A GUI editor or some such would be nice for quick and easy fine tuning, but it's not necessary. Being a code editor gives full control over every aspect, if you want it to be a physical editor you need to write your own (or find one) script engine to load files. Then either use a 3rd party or develop your own 'editor' to have a graphical way of manipulating objects/images/whatever

probably not the right place to post this but I would love to be able to link images into my source code and then have them appear in the editor as a comment.

I often comment things with diagrams in 3D programs. The best I can do at the mo is ref the external JPG in a rem statement.

@The Weeping Corpse - A few possibilities to do that, although not in code. I use a program called yEd which is a flow chart editor which helps from time to time. Also getting a free blog site from WordPress can help you along the way by posting snippets and screen shots as you progress.

Thanks for the tip on yEd that looks very interesting. I've been using a whiteboard with a digital camera in conjunction with this software

as for blogs, well I've already setup www.theweepingcorpse.com with unlimited space, unlimted bandwidth etc but done nothing with it yet because I know ZERO about websites lol.

DBPro is a compiler

The way it was 'sold' to me was that if I bought the Dark Game Studio Bonanza, I could build something in quote "the editor" (not sure what editor..) and import it in to DB Pro to do the more specific settings like Camera angle, etc..

If I knew it was just a compiler I wouldn't have bought it, I have loads of compilers..

Glancing at the bonanza ad page, perhaps you were thinking of FPS Creator?
Quote: "FPS Creator FREE

Create your game instantly with the intuitive 3D editor. Drag and drop walls, lights, doors, enemies, ammo, weapons and more - with pixel perfect precision, and watch as they intelligently link together. Then with one click of the mouse, play your game!"

Or maybe cartography shop?

If only game creating worked like that! How you're talking about it makes it sound like you just wanted to model or render a still scene.

Heh, yes but none of them compile basic from an easy to learn language with great commands. In most other languages it would be a huge pain to get a 3d renderer running. Or at least more of a pain than:

And besides, it could take years (read: four years of university) to get to game creation using some other languages.

Before throwing in the towel, at least take a look here:

Dark Game Studio Bonanza is a set of tools you can use for game creation and it actually covers most of the bases you need. But it requires programming knowledge, however, DBP is easy to get into compared to some of the alternatives.

Dark Basic Pro is the programming language you code with and it will compile your game. Try:

And hit compile. That's the kind of thing you're doing in DBP

So that's programming, now, the rest you've got to worry about is the media. For trees & plants there's Tree Magik and Plat Life, for Shaders (when you get to the stage where you know how to use them) you've got Dark Shader, you've got things like Dark Physics to make programming your physics a LOT easier and other plugins for DBP that ought to make your life easier.

Cartography Shop is a decent map editor, which you could use to create the world for your game.

FPSC Free is useful for making First Person Shooters with ease, but I suspect that's not the reason it was included in the package as you can actually use it as a level editor and import FPSC scenes into your own Dark Basic Pro projects. All of the game logic, all the behaviour and what everything 'does' is up to your programming.

But if you bought this before knowing what you were buying, then maybe it's a bit foolish, because: TGC offers the ability to try their software - in fact there's a free non-commerical version of Dark Basic Pro for you to test. As for questions, there's the forum. However, I wouldn't say give it up, give it a go, try it out, you might be pleasantly surprised when you start making your own games. There's some really fantastic stuff to come out of these tools.

Thanks, I'll have a play around with that I've got then..

I was going by what I was told when asking about it, it was explained as if I would have an editor (by description the FPSC) where I would put the walls, etc.. etc.., texture how I want, then compile it, all with in the DB Pro system.

But like I say, I'll have a tinker
