Greetings to all here. New to posting on the forums and have a few puzzles for those who have tried and gain results that were in the positive working direction. I own 3dsMax 2012 as does someone else I know, who has just started tinkering with it and Dark Basic Pro.

I have read in places make one mesh models works, but contrary to that my friend has been unsuccessful and thus had to break up his model limb for limb literally, meaning each part (joint location) he wanted to bend needed to be made as 2 separate objects (or limbs as the term goes from my understanding). Just to make myself really clear, head is a separate limb from neck which is separate from upper torso which is separate from lower torso, upper arms etc etc. He uses bones in animation and cannot get .x files working from 3ds max, meaning he is stuck using .3ds. Apparently the bones move but the mesh doesn't or the whole mesh moves but doesn't bend.

So with news of this how would I go about modelling single mesh models, skinning, and animating (using bones) in 3ds max, export it into .x and get it working inside dark basic pro without error messages or wacky results? (As I have read .x is the only truly supported format for dbp). What should I be keeping a look out for? I love 3ds max. It's complex and simple at the same time and have just started learning to use it. If you do provide some form of help, please write it so a beginner can understand since all these jargens are so numerous.
I'll be playing around with the programs a bit for myself while I wait for replies and may stumble upon the answers myself, but any help prior to days of headaches would be most appreciated.

If you haven't already, check out Pandasoft's panda .x exporter for 3DS Max. You will have to tweak the settings to get the results you are looking for, but it is what you are going to need for this.

Agree vs zeroSlave. Also you will need bone shader!

Hi guys
Yeah as our friend commented, you can use Panda exporter...it works great for single mesh models. Dbpro loads x ,dbo, some 3ds format(not all of them) and some Mdl format. You can load those objects and you had better convert them to Dbo. Dbpro doesn't load 3dsMax models unless you export it to its old 3ds format, but in my experience, some of the last 3DMax's 3ds takes to long to load or simply doesn't load and Dbpro crash.

Cheers.

Might also want to try this.. it separates solid 3dmax models into respective limbs in the order they are created... unfortunately during the creation process you cannot use "mirror" option to make symmetrical objects-rather use shift/create & the rotate the object accordingly...

hope this helps a bit!
