@bergice - If you don't see two separate versions (as in the image) then I suppose your order has not been processed yet. Let's wait and see what Mistrel has to say. (PureGDK is now re-branded as DarkGDK 2.0)

You say that the provided gdkengine.dll is "highly compressed". While that might be all good for size matters, I wonder what the impact is on the intitial load time when this supposeldy has to be decompressed?
If it is a big part of the nearly 10 seconds of a whitescreen you have to sit through each time you run an application after a minor tweak to watch its effect it might be a good idea to provide a larger but quicker to load version for development use at least.

@Triadian's post near the end of the first page (I accidentally thought this was the last post when posting this, but it doesn't seem like it got answered anyway): when you include the original DarkGDK header it will include the DirectX headers as well.
As DGDK2 is essentially only a wrapper for the DarkBASIC plugins it will not do this and the compiler will not recognize things like LPDIRECT3DTEXTURE, etc. structs, classes, typedefs, you name it. The fix is simply enough to include d3d9.h manually.

Personally I haven't noticed any speed difference during the loading. It's the same as in DBPro and GDK 1.0. As for dll compression. Not quite sure how Mistrel did it, but I believe the GDK 2.0 library compiler just rips out all of the commands (as described in plugin template files) from original dlls and puts them into one big gdk library. This way there are no delays during the loading and I might say technically it should work even faster because GDK 2.0 needs to load only a single dll whereas the DBPro version has to extract and link some 30+ dlls.

Hi Mistrel

where is the Release of DarkGDK 2.0

DarkGDK 1.0 commercial users will be entitled to a free upgrade on release.

Hm ... and this you're saying now. I already bought a copy DarkGDK 2.0. I own a commercial license of DarkGDK 1.0

Honestly, this was speculated like months ago when DGDK 2.0 just surfaced.

I'm curious about RC5 as well. I asked the question quite some time ago. Has that idea become vaporware?

what's going on with DarkGDK 2.0 RC5 or otherwise? It's been months now since the last RC was released. It would be good if we could be notified of what the current status is and any forthcoming updates...

I understand your frustration, originally I was so excited by GDK2 and believed we could make it a success. I work with PureBasic and was very interested in ability to continue with my DBP projects in PB without loosing support of all third party plugins. Unfortunately constant disappearance of the main developer has diminished my trust and if we wont get a response in a few months down the road I shall switch to Irrlicht completely.

I attempted to download the latest RC4, just to make sure I had the latest version. My Norton Antivirus blocked the download and claimed it is infected. So, I'm not sure if Mistrel knows that, but Norton completely killed the download for me.

To be honest, we've not seen Mistrel for a long while now so I doubt he knows and I don't know what's going on with Dark GDK 2.0 and to be honest, given his absence I am slightly worried, so I hope he is okay. I think if his internet got cut off or was very busy or anything like that he would have made an attempt to make contact with the forum, even if just a brief 'hello this is what's going on'. I hope his absense isn't anything to do with health, but the sudden and long silence is looking suspicious. Is there anybody here who has direct contact with the guy? Just to see if he's okay or to get a status check if he is?

I was gonna get Dark GDK 2.0 once it started supporting C# but I've now purchased Dark GDK.NET instead just so I can get coding. Though if this does get back on track, I might make a purchase to support the project.

I was thinking exactly the same! I hope he is alright!
DarkGDK 2.0 was just picking up real momentum with the first release candidates and suddenly he's gone without any signs of what is happening...
If he is well I hope he is still working on this. Any sign of activity would be appreciated at this point.

He has gone AWOL a few times before, but it usually lasted a month or two. By looking at his Skype profile it seems he's been away for more than 3 months now. I really hope he's all-right. Any kind of progress update or at least "sorry guys am busy" would reassure his clientele. I don't think this is a great way to treat your customers, especially if RC4 picked up a real momentum like Pauli said. Hope we can get this back on track as soon as possible.

@Juergen: Have you taken up the development of Dark GDK 2.0 RC5 from Mistrel ? Or is this your separate endeavour ? If so how long do you intend to work on it before running away ? Lastly how can we get it ?

ok. laughed enough, the whole thing is not rocket science and I am not a recreational programmer can not estimate the cost. I think I'll be ready in about two months. Eventual I will unlock the whole thing back in consultation with TGC on my website for download. I have no time to wait on Mistrel and I just do not have too many features in its version. The Core, Math, text and input module are done.
Currently I insert the file module.

Greetings Jürgen

Will your effort work with VB.NET? And will it support the DarkAI and DarkClouds addons?

DarkGDK 2.0 supports DarkAI and DarkClouds but not VB.Net. You can use C++ or PureBasic.

Hey, this is starting to look promising again. I might get back to developing on Windows again if this starts to get close to completion...

The DarkGDK 2.0 supporting C++ or Purebasic isn't anything new. It already does that and provides support for every addon for Dark Basic. Its support for VB.NET is what we've all been waiting on. Anyone who programs in C++ or Purebasic can utilize RC 4.0 right now, there's no waiting. But, I, a strictly VB guy, needs RC 5.0 if I am ever going to use this at all to write any substantial game.

I've gone back to the DarkGDK.NET to write my TOWER CAB program. But I lost the use of DarkCLOUDS and DarkAI.
If someone could find a way to make those 2 addons work with Visual Studio/VB.NET 2008-2010-2012 and the DarkGDK.NET,
I would be forever grateful and would provide a free copy of both ATCsimulator2-HD and TOWER CAB (when its done).

o.k. all again very slowly. I'm just a user like everyone else here. The only thing I do is, I revise and extend the existing source code and only for C++. With DarkGDK 2.0 RC4, it is currently not possible to switch in the full screen mode , there is no file commands and no FTP module. These things and a few more I add.

Its much faster and better than v1, BUT is still very much beta/alpha. It has quite a few bugs, but most of them can be worked around for NOW.

In conclusion: I'm going to keep developing my game using this engine and hopefully most of the annoying bugs get's fixed along the way.
