Dark GDK / Exporting from Autodesk to DarkGDK

hi
im new to dark gdk and whenever i try to export a 3d object to dark gdk (with Autodesk 3ds in .3DS file format) the object appears and has the right shape but it entirely in black. it loses its texture and color. any help?

That will export 3ds max file to direct x.

thanks but in order for that to work it requires me to copy paste that file into the 'plugins' sub-directory under the main 3ds Max folder. such a directory does not exist (that i could find)
is there any other way to retain color when i export? something that might convert from .dwf or.max to .x?
when i convert a .3DS to.DBO and then load to darkGDK the same color problem still exists also.
is the problem with the file extension or with the darkGDK code itself that rids imports of color/texture?
